Coccidia of the genus Cryptosporidium were detected in histological sections of the small intestine of three veal calves. Autopsy was performed on these calves as part of a study of the aetiology of the syndrome "cachexia" in veal calves. In addition, typical 4 mu cryptosporidium oocysts were observed in the bowel contents of one of two histologically positive calves examined and seven out of eight other cachectic calves in which coccidia had not been detected on histological examination. Chordoid glioma (CG) is a World Health Organization classified grade II tumor located exclusively in the region of anterior third ventricle. Association of CG with other lesions is extremely rare. We report a case of CG in a 45-year-old male coexisting with an epidermoid cyst in the third ventricle. Ultrastructural examination of the CG revealed microvilli, junctional complexes, and intermediate filaments within the cytoplasm suggesting origin from specialized ependyma. The association of the 2 lesions appears coincidental as convincing evidence for a common histogenesis was not found.

The first case of multifocal eccrine spiradenomas on the hand, forearm and scalp is described. This case is unusual in that the tumors located on the little finger included the nail matrix and occurred in a linear/zosteriform distribution, resulting in a nail deformity. The nodules on the forearm and scalp were in a random distribution. Histologically, each tumor was highly cellular and composed of two cell types: small darkly staining basaloid cells and larger, pale cells. Ultrastructural observations often showed an intracellular lumen with numerous microvilli in larger pale-staining cells.

Cryptosporidiosis, previously unreported in cotton rats (Sigmodon hispidus), was observed in one of nine cotton rats from Pryor, Oklahoma (USA). Infection was confined to the large intestine. The influence of chenodesoxycholic acid on the gastro-intestinal tract of male Wistar rats was studied. Chenodesoxycholic acid was orally administered in a dosis of 20mg/kg body weight over a period of 5, 14, 20, 30 and 60 days. The electron microscope revealed only slight pathological changes compared to the control group of untreated animals. While stomach, duodenum and ascending colon were found to be non-specific, supranuclear fatty deposits were detected in the jejunum; in the terminal ileum and the jejunum swollen microvilli and a loosening of the terminal reticulum was observed.
