Relationship Between Second Victim Distress, Resilience, Deliberate Rumination and Compassion Fatigue Among ICU Nurses: A Moderated Mediation Model.

BACKGROUND: Patient safety is a critical global health issue. ICU nurses, burdened by heavy workloads and psychological stress, are particularly vulnerable to second victim syndrome following adverse events. This can diminish their sensitivity to patient harm and emotional engagement, potentially resulting in compassion fatigue. Deliberate rumination and resilience may serve as protective factors in this process. AIM: This study investigates the relationships among second victim distress, deliberate rumination and compassion fatigue in ICU nurses and examines resilience as a moderating factor

Nurse-Led Family Liaison in Adult Intensive Care: From Pandemic Innovation to an Integrated Model for Patient- and Family-Centred Care.

BACKGROUND: Patient- and family-centred care (PFCC) is recognised as a marker of quality in intensive care but remains challenging to operationalise in routine practice. During the COVID-19 pandemic, visiting restrictions prompted the rapid introduction of Family Liaison Services (FLSs) to support communication with families. However, evidence on the feasibility, acceptability, and impact of sustained, nurse-led FLS models in adult Intensive Care Units (ICUs) beyond the pandemic remains limited. AIM: To evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and impact of a nurse-led FLS. STUDY DESIGN: Sin

Management by Walking Around and Nurses' Voice Behaviour: A Structural Equation Modelling Approach to the Mediating Role of Trust in Intensive Care Units.

BACKGROUND: Management by walking around (MBWA) is a leadership practice in which head nurses maintain a visible presence in clinical settings, interact directly with nurses, promote open communication, observe workflow and foster a supportive work environment. These practices may contribute to building nurses' trust and encouraging them to speak up. AIM: To examine the direct and indirect effects of head nurses' MBWA on nurses' voice behaviour with trust as a single mediating variable. STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional correlational design was employed using a convenience sample of nurses wor

Collaborative Primary-Care Workforce Models: An Integrative Review of Evidence Informing RN Prescriber Integration with Family Physicians and Nurse Practitioners.

Background/Objectives: Registered nurse (RN) prescribing is increasingly discussed as a strategy to improve primary-care access, medication follow-up, chronic disease management, and service responsiveness. The available evidence, however, does not directly test a single coordinated RN prescriber-family physician/nurse practitioner (FP/NP) model. This integrative review synthesized heterogeneous evidence relevant to how RN prescribing may be organized within team-based primary care. Methods: A structured integrative review approach was used to map evidence from nurse and non-medical prescribin

Work-related well-being and primary headache disorders among Japanese nurses: a cross-sectional structural equation modeling study.

Acute care hospital nurses face occupational conditions linked to headache, including shift work and psychosocial stress, but pathways from work-related well-being (WRWB) to primary headache disorders remain uncharacterized in occupational settings. This cross-sectional study estimated the 1-year prevalence of primary headache disorders among 247 nurses from two acute care hospitals in Japan and examined whether WRWB is indirectly associated with headache outcomes via psychological health and sleep. Headache was classified according to the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3r

Delirium screening in an acute care setting with a machine learning classifier based on routinely collected nursing data: A model development study.

Delirium screening in acute care settings is a resource intensive process with frequent deviations from screening protocols. A predictive model relying only on daily collected nursing data for delirium screening could expand the populations covered by such screening programs. Here, we present the results of the development and validation of a series of machine-learning based delirium prediction models. For this purpose, we used data of all patients 18 years or older which were hospitalized for more than a day between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2018, at a single tertiary teaching hospita

Achieving Hepatitis C Elimination By Using Person-Centered, Nurse-Led Models of Care: A Discussion of Four International Case Studies.

Nurse-led models of care are an important strategy in the management of patients with chronic disease because of the person-centered approach that allows the needs of the individual to be prioritized and addressed in accessible settings. Hepatitis C is caused by a blood-borne virus that can cause liver disease and liver cancer; it predominantly affects marginalized populations, including people who inject drugs. Since 2013, all oral, direct-acting antiviral regimens have been available to cure hepatitis C. Nurses are well placed to be involved in the delivery of hepatitis C testing and treatme
