Levobunolol-imprinted polymer: a theoretical study.

CONTEXT: Levobunolol is a β-blocker drug prescribed for the control and prevention of cardiovascular events, such as individuals with cardiac arrhythmia or a history of myocardial infarction. Creating a levobunolol-specific molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) allows for enhanced selectivity, efficient sample preparation, controlled drug delivery, and improved sensing and detection capabilities. In this sense, the aim of this study was to obtain through DFT calculations the synthesis protocol of a MIP for levobunolol testing different functional monomers (FMs), solvents, and cross-linker agents

Enhanced separation and purification of vanillin in aqueous-phase through specific Achiff base covalent imprinting.

Conventional hydrogen-bonded molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) suffered from significantly compromised adsorption performance in aqueous environments due to competitive interference from water molecules. To overcome this limitation, this study developed a novel imprinting strategy based on reversible Schiff base bonding. Schiff base covalent imprinting utilizes aldehyde groups and amino groups to form reversible covalent bonds (C = N), achieving specific recognition between template molecules and functional monomers. Schiff base has strong affinity and selectivity, which can effectively re…

MOF-supported surface-imprinted polymer for hazard governance of aristolochic acids in herbal matrices: A safety-control strategy supported by multiscale simulations.

Aristolochic acids are highly toxic compounds found in certain herbal medicines, posing significant safety risks. To address this, a UiO-66-NH2(Zr)-supported surface molecularly imprinted polymer (SMIP) was developed, using indomethacin (IND) as a pseudo-template to create selective binding sites for aristolochic acid I (AA-I). Characterizations confirmed the formation of a thin imprinted layer and the successful removal of the pseudo-template. Adsorption fitting confirmed that physical monolayer adsorption predominated, with both imprinted and non-imprinted adsorption sites present. The SMIP

Electrochemical chiral sensor for levofloxacin detection base on Cu/Fe-BTC amplification.

The key to developing sensors for chiral drug determination is to exclude interference from enantiomers. In this study, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) were introduced to prepare a chiral sensor for levofloxacin detection. The MIP was electropolymerised on the surface of the Cu/Fe-benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate MOF (Cu/Fe-BTC)-modified Au electrode using levofloxacin as a template molecule. After eluting the levofloxacin, a chiral sensor with recognition sites for levofloxacin was obtained. With this site as a switch, a novel method for detecting levofloxa

Enzymatic template removal-enabled fabrication of highly stable magnetic surface-imprinted polymers for selective removal of human serum albumin.

The removal of template proteins by proteases is a viable strategy to improve the structural stability of imprinted cavities in molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). Human serum albumin (HSA), the most abundant serum protein, can mask trace biomarker signals and hinder their detection. In this study, HSA was covalently immobilized on Fe3O4@SiO2 via glutaraldehyde, and a thin polydopamine (PDA) layer was formed by dopamine (DA) self-polymerization, yielding magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs). The template was then removed with trypsin and chymotrypsin, and this enzymatic approach …

Molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction in the analysis of agrochemicals.

The molecular imprinting technique is a highly predeterminative recognition technology. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) can be applied to the cleanup and preconcentration of analytes as the selective adsorbent of solid-phase extraction (SPE). In recent years, a new type of SPE has formed, molecularly imprinted polymer solid-phase extraction (MISPE), and has been widely applied to the extraction of agrochemicals. In this review, the mechanism of the molecular imprinting technique and the methodology of MIP preparations are explained. The extraction modes of MISPE, including offline and on…

Fluorescent imprinted polymers prepared with 2-acrylamidoquinoline as a signaling monomer.

[structure: see text] A cyclobarbital-selective molecularly imprinted polymer was prepared using a fluorescent functional monomer, 2-acrylamidoquinoline. This monomer was designed to increase in fluorescence intensity upon hydrogen bonding to the cyclobarbital guest. The resultant imprinted polymers exhibited the enhancement of the fluorescence intensity when cyclobarbital was bound. Our results show that this fluorescent responsive imprinting method could be useful in the development of sensors for quantification of nonfluorescent compounds.

Antibody-Free SPR Detection of Human Myoglobin in Serum by a Sandwich Configuration of Epitope-Imprinted Nanofilms and Nanoparticles.

Designing robust, fully synthetic receptors capable of selective protein detection remains critical for advanced clinical diagnostics. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are a promising alternative to antibodies, but their application is often limited by empirical epitope selection and incomplete integration into functional assays. Here, we present an end-to-end platform combining data-driven epitope selection with polynorepinephrine-based molecular imprinting to produce fully synthetic protein receptors. The Python script "Epitope Selection Rational Approach" (ESRA), integrating physicoche…
