OBJECTIVES: Hypotension is a common and clinically significant issue in the intensive care unit (ICU), associated with increased morbidity and mortality. ICU nurses play a central role in its detection and initial management, yet their ability to act autonomously might be limited. Insights into their knowledge and perspectives regarding nurse-driven hypotension treatment are currently lacking. The aim of this study was to assess ICU nurses' knowledge and current practices in hypotension management and to identify perceived barriers to the implementation of nurse-driven hypotension management p

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are essential contributors to the contemporary cardiology workforce. The increasing prevalence of cardiovascular disease, coupled with persistent clinician shortages, has accelerated the integration of NPs across ambulatory and acute settings. This article explores the contributions of NPs to cardiology care across a continuum from longitudinal patient care and prevention to leadership and translational science. Investment in NP education, training, and role utilization will be pivotal to shaping an efficient, patient-centered cardiology workforce for the future.

BACKGROUND: Inappropriate prescribing of antipsychotics is a longstanding challenge to providing high quality care in nursing facilities. The 1987 Nursing Home Reform Act (NHRA) had an initial impact in reducing inappropriate prescribing, but rates returned to pre-NHRA levels. While the recent Partnership to Improve Dementia Care in Nursing Homes (Partnership) initiative has been successful in reducing the prescribing of antipsychotics in skilled nursing facilities/nursing facilities (NF), it is not known how this guidance initiative impacted prescribing practices and other care processes conc

The specific quantitative relationship between the calculated mean total nursing hours per patient-day (derived from National Health Insurance Form 9) and in-hospital mortality in Japanese acute-care settings remains largely unexamined. This study aims to evaluate the clinical relevance and patient safety impact of actual nursing care hours by identifying practical thresholds below which patient mortality risk substantially increases. This retrospective, multicentre study included 75,708 patients admitted to general hospital beds between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2020, across nine acute-car

Patients receiving dialysis are among the most medically complex populations in health care and are at high risk for medication-related problems. Polypharmacy, frequent hospitalizations, multiple comorbid conditions, and care from numerous health care providers contribute to medication discrepancies and adverse drug events. In addition, advanced kidney disease significantly alters drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination, requiring careful application of renal drug dosing principles. Nephrology nurses and advanced practice providers play critical roles in medication reconcili

This study examined the differences in adherence to medication for the treatment of depressive mood disorders whether the patient was involved in split or integrated therapy and if the patient was being treated by a psychiatrist or an advanced practice registered nurse (APRNs) in psychiatry with prescriptive authority. The sample consisted of 122 adults ages 20-60 who carried a diagnosis of major depression, dysthymia, or bipolar II disorder, voluntarily treated in the private sector. Chi-square was the measure used to assess differences in adherence. Adherence was determined by documentation

BACKGROUND: Pulse oximetry (SpO₂) is the primary tool used by Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurses to monitor oxygenation. Occult hypoxemia - a reassuring SpO₂ despite low arterial saturation (SaO₂) - is a critical patient-safety concern.
OBJECTIVES: To measure SpO₂-SaO₂ discordance in ICU patients, identify situations in which SpO₂ cannot be trusted, and assess its impact on ICU mortality.
METHODS: Retrospective single-centre cohort study (September 2019 - January 2026), reported according to STROBE. SpO₂ was charted hourly; each arterial blood gas was paired with the most recent preceding entr

BACKGROUND: Clinical practice is essential for student nurse anesthetists to integrate theory with practical skills; however, the demanding clinical environment can impact both stress and learning outcomes. Responsibilities and expectations differ across healthcare systems, and research in the Swedish context remains limited. Addressing this gap is essential for understanding how clinical practice contributes to the development of professional readiness and competence. This study, therefore, aimed to describe the learning experiences of students and newly graduated nurse anesthetists, with a f
