Dissimilar Sequelae Caused by Single Dental Trauma: A Case Report with Long-Term Follow-up.

Immediate care and accurate diagnosis are essential for treating dental trauma. This report presents a 7-year-old boy suffered a bicycle accident with direct trauma to the mouth and extrusive luxation of teeth #11 and #21. The emergency treatment was performed within the first hour. Clinical examinations showed that both teeth exhibited 3 mm extrusion from comparing their incisal edges to their neighboring teeth, had edematous gingiva, showed grade 3 mobility and were painful to percussion. Radiographic exams showed incomplete root formation, widened periodontal spaces along their entire lengt

Ankylosis of impacted canines: a retrospective post-surgical study.

Ankylosis is generally discovered following resistance to orthodontic displacement of an impacted canine. This retrospective study, drawing on direct perioperative observation of impacted teeth and of their sites, is intended, among other things, to analyze the causes of resistance to orthodontic movement and to report on the therapeutic interest of the surgical tooth displacement technique in this type of clinical situation. We demonstrate that primary coronal ankylosis can be detected by the orthodontic practitioner using radiographic records, that cervical ankylosis consequent to operative

Multidisciplinary approach to traumatized teeth: a case report.

Treatment of crown fractures often requires a multidisciplinary approach. In the anterior teeth, reestablishment of proper esthetics and function is quite important for the patient. However, crown-root fractures with fracture line below the gingival attachment or alveolar bone crest presents restorative difficulties. This case report presents a cervical tooth fracture that had been treated with minimal invasive approach with different disciplines. The tooth had endodontic treatment and a glass-fiber post, and a composite core was accomplished. Then, the tooth was extruded to the desired level

Case report: management of an impacted maxillary canine in association with a deviated palatal premolar root.

AIM: The purpose of this case report is to present the management of an impacted maxillary canine adjacent to a deviated palatal first premolar root. BACKGROUND: Maxillary canine impactions are of multifactorial etiology. The incidence of maxillary canine impaction ranges from 1% to 3%. One of the reasons for canine impaction might be a deviated palatal premolar root. To date, a total of six cases have been described where impacted maxillary canines were found in close proximity to a deviated palatal first premolar root. REPORT: A male patient, aged 17 years 3 months, with a Class I molar re

[External root resorption].

Root resorption may be a physiological (resorption of deciduous teeth) or a pathological process (resorption of permanent teeth). In the latter case an external and an internal form of resorption can be distinguished. Root resorption may occur on one tooth or on several teeth within a dentition and it may be caused by trauma, periodontitis, orthodontic treatment, internal bleaching, cysts, tumors, or by stimuli from a necrotic dental pulp. Current knowledge concerning the pathogenesis of root resorption and therapeutic approaches are presented. For cervical resorption, it is assumed that the s

Some factors associated with open gingival embrasures following orthodontic treatment.

Open gingival embrasures or "black triangles" can be an undesirable outcome of adult orthodontic treatment. The aims of the present study were to determine the prevalence of open gingival embrasures in a group of orthodontic patients, and to determine if open gingival embrasures were related to: age at the start of treatment, the severity of pretreatment crowding of the mandibular incisors, the duration of treatment or changes in alveolar bone height. The subjects were 80 orthodontic patients (33 males, 47 females) between 15 and 31 years of age. Open gingival embrasures were found in 43.7 per

Effectiveness of different intrusion protocols with clear aligner for maxillary anterior teeth in periodontitis: a finite element analysis.

BACKGROUND: Extrusion of anterior teeth is a common manifestation of periodontitis. Orthodontic intrusion is an effective approach for improving occlusion and periodontal health. This study aimed to identify the optimal protocols for maxillary incisor intrusion using clear aligner (CA) in patients with periodontitis. METHODS: A validated finite element model was established, including the CA, teeth, periodontal ligaments (PDLs), and alveolar bone with three levels of bone height (simulating mild to severe periodontitis). The intrusion angles were varied from 0° to 60° in 10° increments relati

Traumatic intrusion of permanent teeth. Part 3. A clinical study of the effect of treatment variables such as treatment delay, method of repositioning, type of splint, length of splinting and antibiotics on 140 teeth.

A prospective study of 140 intruded permanent teeth was examined for the following healing complications: pulp necrosis (PN), root resorptio … ery carefully. In older patients (i.e. >17 years) with completed root formation, either surgical or orthodontic extrusion should be attempted. The latter procedure appeared to lead to a slight reduction (not significant) in the risk of MA complications. The extent and direction of the intrusion may however favour surgical repositioning.

Surgical considerations and management of bilateral labially impacted canines.

Canines are among the most commonly impacted teeth. When a canine is positioned labially, the untoward soft-tissue responses following surgical exposure may cause unfavorable esthetic outcomes. Therefore, decision making as to the choice of a proper surgical technique to uncover labially impacted teeth is critical. This case presentation describes two different surgical approaches for two maxillary impacted canines in a 12-year-old girl. A sequential approach included a first stage of surgical exposure using apically positioned flaps and orthodontic extrusion of both impacted teeth. A successi…

Ankylosed maxillary incisor with severe root resorption treated with a single-tooth dento-osseous osteotomy, vertical alveolar distraction osteogenesis, and mini-implant anchorage.

Dentoalveolar ankylosis interferes with the vertical growth of the alveolar process, which can lead to an open bite, an unesthetic smile, and occlusal disharmony. This case report presents a new treatment protocol for an ankylosed tooth with severe root resorption using a combined surgical orthodontic management protocol involving a single-tooth dento-osseous osteotomy and vertical alveolar distraction osteogenesis with intraoral elastics and mini-implant anchorage. After distraction and active orthodontic treatment, the patient's anterior open bite was corrected. A Class I dental relationship

[Combination of periodontal, orthodontic and endodontic therapy in upper anterior teeth with hopeless prognosis and long-time follow-up: a case report].

It is complicated to decide the treatment plan of hopeless anterior teeth in esthetic zone due to severe periodontitis, periodontal-endodontic combined lesion or teeth trauma. The optional treatment plan for this kind of teeth includes retention after periodontal treatment, extraction and implant treatment, extraction and prosthodontic treatment and so on. To make an appropriate treatment plan, patients' periodontal conditions, periodontal biotype, local anatomy, esthetic demand, economic condition and social psychological status should be comprehensively considered. A combine of periodontal,

Primary failure of eruption and PTH1R: the importance of a genetic diagnosis for orthodontic treatment planning.

INTRODUCTION: Primary failure of eruption (PFE) is characterized by nonsyndromic eruption failure of permanent teeth in the absence of mechanical obstruction. Recent studies support that this dental phenotype is inherited and that mutations in PTH1R genes explain several familial cases of PFE. The objective of our study was to investigate how genetic analysis can be used with clinical diagnostic information for improved orthodontic management of PFE. METHODS: We evaluated a family (n = 12) that segregated an autosomal dominant form of PFE with 5 affected and 7 unaffected persons. Nine availab

Rescuing teeth from dentigerous cyst: a case report.

The goal of this treatment was the surgical- orthodontic rescue of the impacted teeth in a large dentigerous cyst, in a growing patient, by fixed orthodontic appliances. Initial and final records and progress in treatment are shown. The Authors demonstrate that a good result my be reached in this cases even if initial position of the cyst-associated teeth is critical and translocation of an adjacent tooth in the arch occurs.
