From an electron microscopic study I indicated that the number of nerve fibres per unit area in the frontal white matter was significantly less in PSVE than that in controls. The white matter pallor in PSVE is mainly based on the loss of nerve fibres. The dementia in PSVE is probably related to the loss of nerve fibres in the cerebral white matter. The cup-disk ratio (CDR), the size of the neuroretinal rim area as well as the other disk parameters investigated with the Optic Nerve Head Analyzer (ONHA) were measured in double examinations of 32 healthy eyes in 32 patients. Late vitamin K deficiency bleeding should be considered in exclusively breastfed infants presenting with seizures, pallor, or unexplained bleeding, particularly when vitamin K prophylaxis was not administered at birth. Symptoms of RP affect 3-5% of the general population, with the incidence four times higher in women than in men. A 6-month-old infant was diagnosed with infantile malignant autosomal recessive osteopetrosis. An ophthalmologic examination revealed optic nerve pallor and computed tomography of the brain showed narrowing of the orbital fissure. Unrelated umbilical cord blood transplantation was performed. A patient with multiple enteric fistulae, after months of parenteral hyperalimentation, developed, severe depression accompanied by delirium, dermatitis, pallor, paresthesia, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and headaches. His symptoms improved after treatment with parenteral biotin. Biotin-deficiency should be suspected in patients on hyperalimentation (without biotin supplementation) who develop similar symptoms.

Pyoderma gangrenosum is an inflammatory condition of the skin commonly associated with inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis, but also associated with various hematological malignancies. A case of human envenomization by a plectreurid spider, Plectreurys tristis Simon, is reported for the first time. The patient was bitten on the calf of the leg and initially experienced pain, edema, and slight pallor at the bite site. Numbness persisted for approximately 1 h in the affected leg. Lymphocytic leukemia and lymphosarcoma were diagnosed in a rabbit with lethargy, emaciation, and pallor. The diagnosis was made on the bases of results of hematologic analysis, cytologic evaluation of a bone marrow specimen, and histologic examination. The lymphosarcoma was identified to be of T-cell origin. Leukemia is rarely diagnosed in rabbits, although lymphosarcoma is fairly common in this species.
