PURPOSE & RELEVANCE: This study aimed to investigate the factors that foster school belonging, students' levels of belonging, and the role of school climate in faith-based educational institutions. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for developing inclusive educational environments that support students' psychological and social integration.
TYPE OF RESEARCH & POPULATION: Adopting a qualitative research design to provide in-depth insights into students',perceptions, and interpretations, the study was conducted with a study group of 78 students (Mean age = 15.74, SD = 1.09; 48 girls and 3

The healthy context paradox-the phenomenon that victimized youths show poorer adjustment in classrooms with lower levels of bullying-has been documented primarily for psychological outcomes but remains less explored with respect to peer social dynamics. The present study examined whether this pattern is also observable in victims' peer acceptance, and rejection beyond their friendship network. Using sociometric data from 915 Hungarian students (aged 11-18) across 40 classrooms, we estimated multilevel models to test whether classroom-level victimization norms were associated with variation in

Services delivered by peer workers (people with lived/living experience) are recommended to find, test, and treat those at risk of hepatitis C (HCV). However, there is a lack of knowledge around the characteristics and underlying mechanisms of existing HCV peer interventions and how these drive effectiveness and impact. This systematic scoping review aimed to identify the activities of peer interventions, their reported outcomes, and mechanisms of change. We systematically searched five databases (Scopus, PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO and Web of Science) for peer-reviewed papers which described HCV

Parental separation raises children's peer rejection but not friendship integration. Peer rejection increases after separation and remains high for up to four years. No moderating effects were found for the child's age, the child's gender, or parental education. Separation impairs peer relations primarily by heightening children's socioemotional difficulties.

OBJECTIVES: Miscarriage, defined in the UK as loss of pregnancy prior to 24 weeks gestation, can have long-term psychological implications. Clinical guidelines for perinatal bereavement care do not provide guidance on how best to support the mental health of women, and their partners, after miscarriage. Peer support (support from those who share common characteristics) is often sought, but there is little understanding of its access and use. We conducted a systematic review to understand the barriers to and facilitators of the implementation of peer support to improve mental health outcomes fo

Adolescent acquired brain injury (ABI) often results in long-term social challenges, with peer acceptance playing a crucial role in psychosocial outcomes. Hills and Dunsmuir's study highlights how attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control influence adolescents' intentions to engage with peers with ABI, explaining 83% of the variance. Notably, perceived behavioral control was the strongest predictor, indicating that even positive attitudes may not translate into inclusion if engagement is perceived as difficult. Externalizing behaviors further reduce the likelihood of peer a

PURPOSE: To examine whether a growth emotion mindset intervention (E-MIND) protects adolescent girls exposed to high peer stress from mental health difficulties by decreasing their fixed emotion mindsets (FEMs).
METHODS: One hundred sixty-three adolescent girls (Mage = 15.68 years; 8.5% Asian American; 10.4% Black; 4.3% Latine; 10.4% multiracial; 66.3% White) from the community were assigned via a random number generator to E-MIND (N = 81) or a control brain education lesson (N = 82). Participants reported on FEMs and depressive and anxiety symptoms at baseline and two follow-ups.

BACKGROUND: More adults in prison need social care support. In some prisons, prisoners ('buddies') are trained to provide social care support for non-personal care tasks to other prisoners. These services are not mandated but have been proposed as a solution to support social care provision in prisons. Previous research explored delivery of peer support initiatives in prisons, but there has been little research evaluating the effectiveness, implementation and experience of social care peer support. There is a need to establish how best to measure the impact and cost of peer support schemes for

Peer coaching is a form of faculty development in which faculty improve their teaching skills through collaborative work or peer observation of teaching. As a tool grounded in experiential learning, peer coaching promotes targeted feedback, reflection on action, and collegial exchange to improve teacher self-efficacy and trainee learning outcomes. Nevertheless, faculty developers face challenges in creating sustainable, effective peer coaching programs as faculty fear scrutiny of their teaching practices. Additionally, to promote collegial exchange, faculty (the person observed and peer coach)

During adolescence, interactions with peers influence a teen's attitudes and behaviors. Adolescents seek for peer approval and acceptance, which may bring them to engage in health-risky behaviors such as smoking and drinking. In this study, we estimate the impact of peers on the drug use of Spanish students aged 14 to 18. We focus on the consumption of alcohol and tobacco, the most prevalent substances used at those ages. We estimate the effect of the average classmates' consumption-the measure of peers' use-on individual consumption. Since peers' use affects individual use and vice versa, we

A considerable number of studies have documented associations between peer victimization and concurrent and prospective increase in alcohol and substance use. Only a handful have investigated the psychological (e.g., internalizing behavior) and biological (e.g., neural systems) factors that contribute to this relation. Emerging studies provide clues as to mechanisms that may underlie increased risk for alcohol and substance use and associated problems in peer victimized youth, which may serve as potential targets for intervention. This review proposes a conceptual framework of increased alcoho

Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder experience significant academic, social, and behavioral impairments in elementary school settings. Although psychopharmacologic treatments can improve symptomatic behaviors, these rarely are sufficient for enhancing school performance. Thus, medication should be supplemented by one or more school interventions, including behavioral strategies, academic interventions, behavioral peer interventions, organizational skills training, and self-regulation strategies. Although all of these school interventions have been found effective, classroom

INTRODUCTION: Peer education, whereby peers ('peer educators') teach their other peers ('peer learners') about aspects of health is an approach growing in popularity across school contexts, possibly due to adolescents preferring to seek help for health-related concerns from their peers rather than adults or professionals. Peer education interventions cover a wide range of health areas but their overall effectiveness remains unclear. This review aims to summarise the effectiveness of existing peer-led health interventions implemented in schools worldwide.

Objectives: We measure the impacts of an intersectoral intervention tackling adolescent substance use implemented between 2017 and 2019 in a tri-border region of Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. Methods: The intervention involved 23 institutions from different sectors and 880 adolescents, equally split between randomly selected treatment and control classes across institutions. Treatment group students were involved in the co-development of activities to tackle substance use within their institutions. Both treatment and control group students benefited from the activities developed and impleme

Peer-driven interventions can be effective in reducing HIV injection risk behaviors among people who inject drugs (PWID). We employed a causal mediation framework to examine the mediating role of recall of intervention knowledge in the relationship between a peer-driven intervention and subsequent self-reported HIV injection-related risk behavior among PWID in the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) 037 study. For each intervention network, the index participant received training at baseline to become a peer educator, while non-index participants and all participants in the control networks r

BACKGROUND: Peer victimization is a source of stress for many adolescents and has important implications for their psychosocial development. Importantly, adolescents' experiences of peer victimization are dynamic and may change over time, due to individual and school-based contextual factors.
OBJECTIVE: The goal of the current study was to examine the stability of peer victimization and predictive effects of individual and contextual factors on the changes in patterns of victimization for Chinese adolescents over a 12-month period.

BACKGROUND: Although the family and peer systems are both important for children's development, few studies have simultaneously considered the impact of adversity experienced in these systems on children.
OBJECTIVE: The first purpose of this study was using latent profile analysis (LPA) to identify profiles of family maltreatment (i.e., physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect) and peer victimization (i.e., physical victimization and relational victimization) among Chinese elementary school children. The second purpose was to examine associations between the identified profiles and short-

Behavioral synchrony during social interactions is foundational for the development of social relationships. Behavioral inhibition (BI), characterized by wariness to social novelty and increased anxiety, may influence how children engage in moment-to-moment behavioral synchrony. EEG-derived frontal Alpha asymmetry and Delta-Beta coupling reflect approach-avoidance behavior and emotion regulation, respectively. We examined the relation between intradyadic behavioral synchrony in energy levels and peer gaze, BI, and EEG measures (N = 136, 68 dyads, MeanAge = 10.90 years) during unstructured and
