OBJECTIVE: To determine the feasibility of original aortic valve reconstruction, 404 consecutive cases were reviewed. The early results are reported here.
METHODS: Aortic valve reconstruction was performed for 404 patients from April 2007 through September 2011. The results for all 404 patients were reviewed retrospectively. There were 289 patients with aortic stenosis and 115 patients with aortic regurgitation. One hundred two patients had bicuspid aortic valves, 13 patients had unicuspid valves, and 2 patients had quadricuspid valves. There were 201 males and 203 females. Mean age was 69.0

A patient for double valve replacement developed an unusual complication consequent to extra-vascular displacement of a port of a central venous catheter, placed through the right subclavian vein. The patient had an uneventful surgical course and the trachea extubated after routine mechanical ventilation. BACKGROUND: Dislocation of the heart is a rare complication of thoracic blunt trauma. A high index of suspicion of pericardium rupture is necessary to formulate an early diagnosis to reduce morbidity and mortality.
PATIENTS: A 23-year-old man suffered a blunt thoracoabdominal trauma and was admitted 3 days later to a university hospital ICU for right heart luxation due to right pericardial tear. Mechanical ventilation delayed radiological findings.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Surgery by repositioning the heart and repairing the pericardial tear allowed restoration of hemodynamic equilibrium.

An unusual case of amebic liver abscess that ruptured into the pericardial cavity is presented. This complication of amebic disease is extremely rare, and fatal.
