Drug-induced aseptic meningitis attributable to trimethoprim alone has only rarely been documented in the literature. A previously healthy adolescent male presented to our hospital with recurrent headaches, photophobia, and meningismus after serially starting and stopping trimethoprim. Cerebrospinal fluid studies revealed elevated white blood cell counts with a polymorphonuclear predominance. This case is the second documented report of trimethoprim-induced aseptic meningitis in a pediatric patient.

We report 6 cases of black Senegalese boys with xeroderma pigmentosum. They were between 2 and 16 year-old and presented features of hypersensitivity to UV (keratosis, lentigines, poikilodermia and photophobia). Our cases were remarkable by the early occurrence of squamous cell and basal cell carcinoma located in photoexposed sites causing the death of 5 of them. Xeroderma pigmentosum must be considered as the first preneoplastic genodermatosis.

Specimens of a cornea, conjunctiva and iris were removed at the time of penetrating keratoplasty in a case of nephropathic cystinosis. Immunohistochemical studies revealed the presence of class II antigens on the stromal keratocytes of the cornea and the vascular endothelial cells, pericytes and fibroblasts of the conjunctiva. In addition, there were thinning and focal breaks in Bowman's membrane. Both of these findings may have contributed to the severe photophobia and blepharospasm seen in patients with longstanding cystinosis.

Oculocutaneous albinism is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by general depigmentation, nystagmus, photophobia, and decreased visual acuity. Malignant melanoma is extremely rare in patients with albinism. We present a 41-year-old albino male patient, who was admitted with a suspected bronchogenic carcinoma. He underwent a pulmonary resection and the diagnosis was primary malign melanoma of the lung. The patient died of tumor recurrence in the postoperative 46th month.
