Facial trauma remains a common reason for visits to the emergency department or urgent care facility. The ear remains susceptible to trauma given its delicate anatomy and position in the maxillofacial region. Understanding the anatomy and recognizing the circumstances regarding the mechanism of injury help dictate treatment. The goals of treatment should remain to restore the physiologic form and function of the ear. Middle ear injuries should also be addressed during the process. Although primary repair remains feasible in most cases, there are instances when delayed and staged reconstruction

Proper eyelid closure and a normal blink reflex are essential to maintain a stable tear film and a healthy corneal surface. We present a simple technique to apply moisture chamber eyeglasses after oculoplastic surgery. The Opti-Gard® protective eyewear is faster, easily applicable and well performing. It can be used with different face shape, and it does not require any additional trimming or modification. This technical note explains a very simple, economical and less time-consuming method to prevent a postoperative dry keratoconjunctivitis. It may be applied to all procedures within the fiel

Maxillary sinus antrolithisis is a rare finding. Conservative surgical removal recommended. In the patients that need to maxillary intrasinus augmentation and antrolith is observed in preoperative radiography, 2 options remain. First, doing Caldwell-luc surgery to remove antrolith and delayed open sinus lift. Second way is removing antrolith and concomitant intrasinus augmentation. The first way has 2 disadvantages: prolonged waiting period and difficulty of open sinus lift in sinuses with scar and fibrosis. Coupling these 2 surgeries and using corticocancellous bone block as grafting material

This pictorial review focuses on basic procedures performed within the field of podiatric surgery, specifically for elective reconstruction of the midfoot and rearfoot with focus on the flatfoot deformity. Our goal is to demonstrate objective radiographic parameters that surgeons utilize to initially define the deformity, lead to procedure selection, and judge post-operative outcomes. We hope that radiologists will employ this information to improve their assessment of post-operative radiographs following reconstructive foot surgeries. First, relevant radiographic measurements are defined and

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: After studying this article, the participant should be able to: 1. Describe the clinical features of the disease. 2. Describe the pathoanatomical structures in Dupuytren's disease. 3. Outline the various factors associated with Dupuytren's disease. 4. Describe the modalities for surgical and nonsurgical treatment of the condition. 5. Outline recent biomolecular knowledge about the basis of Dupuytren's disease.
SUMMARY: Dupuytren's disease is characterized by nodule formation and contracture of the palmar fascia, resulting in flexion deformity of the fingers and loss of ha

Gynecomastia is an increase in the size of the mammary gland of the male. It has a varied etiology, mainly associated with hyperestrogenism, although in many cases it is idiopathic. This anomaly produces a deformity of an aesthetic character that provokes alterations of a psychological order in the patient. The aim of surgical treatment is to achieve a normal appearance of the masculine thorax, with the smallest possible scar. Surgical technique will mainly depend on the degree of the gynecomastia, and on the distribution and proportion of the different components (fat and parenchyma) of the b

Hemifacial microsomia is an otomandibular dysplasia which includes congenital malformations affecting the jaw and ear apparatus. The knowledge of normal embryonic development is a prerequisite for optimal clinical management of those malformations. The development of craniofacial structures is a multi-step process, which involves many developmental events ranging from the migration of neural crest cells from the neural folds of the young neurula embryo to molecular signaling interactions that coordinate outgrowth and patterning of the facial primordia. Our current knowledge of craniofacial dev
