Cardiac failure is the leading cause of mortality in patients with thyroid storm. But the underlying cardiac pathology is unclear. Here, we report a 46-year-old woman who presented with hyperpyrexia and sinus tachycardia subsequent to accidental neck contusion. Her hyperthyroidism was verified by abnormal biochemical changes. This report describes a 23 year-old male florist gardener diagnosed with subcutaneous sporotrichosis caused by the dimorphic pathogenic soil fungus Sporothrix schenckii. The patient had several small skin lesions over the left upper arm with ascendant chains of enlarged lymph nodes.Sporothrix schenckii was detected from clinical samples by direct microscopy and culture and its ability to switch from mould to yeast form at 37 degrees C. The patient was successfully treated with long-term potassium iodide and advised to wear gloves and long sleeves when handling any kind of plant material.

Chronic sporotrichosis granuloma of the skin is usually the result of non compliance with oral iodine therapy for whatever reason. Excision of the lesion, local iodine application with povidone iodide for six days and delayed primary skin grafting is presented as a quick, effective and acceptable alternative, if oral treatment is not tolerated. The ineffectiveness of local excision and grafting without adequate iodine therapy is demonstrated by this case.

The toxicity of inorganic mercury, nickel, chromium and cadmium on the unicellular photosynthetic flagellate Euglena gracilis, strain Z (E.g.) has been tested. Under the conditions used each metal impaired the growth rate of E.g., and had a very strong effect on cell motility.
