The objective of this article is to describe main certification problems and difficulties that may concern physicians responsible for prophylactic care of adolescents. Certification concerning the replacement of candidates to technical schools is a very complex task and it requires from physicians to examine carefully the health condition of pupils and candidates and assess conditions of the work environment. The prereplacement medical examinations should facilitate the detection of any health defects that could disqualify a candidate.

Approximate estimates have been made of the effect by the year 2005 of various preventive measures to reduce cancer mortality in Scandinavia. Figures have been calculated for changes in smoking, diet and exposure to sunlight (primary prevention), for earlier diagnosis (secondary prevention), and improved survival as a result of improved treatment (tertiary prevention). BACKGROUND: Despite their health vulnerability, multiple barriers to health care exist for adolescent mothers. This pilot study aimed to gain information regarding preventive health care intentions of young mothers following pregnancy.

The study determined awareness, use and the main source of information about preventive health examinations among 387 childbearing women attending three health facilities in Uyo, Nigeria. Respondents were consenting women aged 15-49 years who had a live birth in the two months preceding the survey. Respondents were interviewed using structured questionnaires during child welfare clinic visits at each facility.
