The Use of Three-Dimensional Printed Technology for Mandibular Reconstruction in a Rare Case of Giant Odontogenic Myxofibroma.

Odontogenic myxofibroma is a benign odontogenic tumor of mesenchymal tissue that generally originates from the mandible. It is an extremely rare tumor accounting for approximately 2% of all odontogenic tumors. In this report, the authors presented a giant right mandibular mass that extends to the angle of the mandible and displacing the tongue laterally caused significant malocclusion, pain, and impaired oral intake. The tumoral involvement of the mandibula required a partial mandibulectomy with the resection of right mandibular ramus, body, and bilateral parasymphysis. Right mandibular condyl

Three-Dimensional Cell Printed Lock-Key Structure for Oral Soft and Hard Tissue Regeneration.

Alveolar ridge absorbs rapidly following tooth extraction. To promote implant rehabilitation, an adequate bone and soft tissue volume are required. Three-dimensional (3D) cell printing technique provides the advantages of precise spatial distribution and personalization. In this study, 3D cell printing was used to establish a soft-hard construct that is composed of alginate/gelatin (AG)/gingival fibroblast cells (GFs) and alginate/gelatin/nano-hydroxyapatite (AGH)/bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). Physicochemical results showed that nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) added in the bioi

Three-dimensional Printed Customized Adjustable Mallet Finger Splint: A Cheap, Effective, and Comfortable Alternative.

Mallet finger deformity is a common and debilitating injury of the fingertip, accounting for 10% of all tendon and ligament injuries. It involves a disruption of the terminal extensor mechanism of the distal phalanx. Patients can experience significant pain and swelling of the fingertip and have significant morbidity without treatment. Nonoperative treatment using joint immobilization with splints is the mainstay of management. Traditionally, prefabricated and thermoplastic splints have been utilized; however, issues with comfort and skin complications such as maceration can lead to patient no

Establishment of deformable three-dimensional printed models for laparoscopic right hemicolectomy in transverse colon cancer.

BACKGROUND: Applications of three-dimensional (3-D) printed solid organ models for navigation and simulation were previously reported for abdominal surgeries, and their usefulness was shown by subjective evaluation. However, thus far, no study has examined the effect of intraoperative movements for tissue handling. Novel, deformable 3-D printed models of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and superior mesenteric vein (SMV) were created to optimize laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. The aim of this study was to establish a method using these individualized models for use in surgical practice.

In Vivo Evaluation of Three-Dimensional Printed, Keratin-Based Hydrogels in a Porcine Thermal Burn Model.

Keratin is a natural material that can be derived from the cortex of human hair. Our group had previously presented a method for the printed, sequential production of three-dimensional (3D) keratin scaffolds. Using a riboflavin-sodium persulfate-hydroquinone (initiator-catalyst-inhibitor) photosensitive solution, we produced 3D keratin-based constructs through ultraviolet crosslinking in a lithography-based 3D printer. In this study, we have used this bioink to produce a keratin-based construct that is capable of delivering small molecules, providing an environment conducive to healing of derm

Three-Dimensional-Printed Temporal Mandibular Joint for Use in Mandibular Distraction for Patients With Craniofacial Microsomia.

The objective of this study is to validate the proof of concept of a 3-dimensional (3D)-printed temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) for use in mandibular distraction in patients with severe craniofacial microsomia (CFM). Patients with Pruzansky-Kaban IIB and III have severe condylar dysplasia and abnormal or absent TMJs, often resulting in upper airway obstruction during infancy. As these patients progress, they require subsequent surgeries to correct facial asymmetry and TMJ function. While studies have shown promising outcomes with costochondral grafting or mandibular distraction without a TMJ i

Three-Dimensional Printed Wearable Sensors with Liquid Metals for Detecting the Pose of Snakelike Soft Robots.

Liquid metal (LM)-based flexible sensors, which utilize advanced liquid conductive materials to serve as sensitive elements, are emerging as a promising solution to measure large deformations. Nowadays, one of the biggest challenges for precise control of soft robots is the detection of their real-time positions. Existing fabrication methods are unable to fabricate flexible sensors that match the shape of soft robots. In this report, we first described a novel 3D printed multifunction inductance flexible and stretchable sensor with LMs, which is capable of measuring both axial tension and curv
