PURPOSE: In general the results of radiotherapy are regarded to be inferior compared to those of surgery, when it comes to the treatment of endometrial carcinoma, but some patients are elderly and have multiple medical problems, which make them inoperable. From 1979-89, 211 women with cancer mammae were irradiated at the Norwegian Radium Hospital after breast-conserving surgery performed at different hospitals in Norway. 181 of these patients were called in for re-examination to check the procedures for treatment and the cosmetic results. Only 37% of the patients had undergone mammography prior to surgery and 48% of the patients had had two or more operations before the irradiation. The local control rates in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, treated between 1958 and 1972, were determined by retrospective analysis of the records of 339 patients at the Norwegian Radium Hospital and of 164 patients at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals. Twenty-one women with biopsy proven aortic node metastases from previously untreated carcinoma of the uterine cervix were treated with high dose irradiation to the pelvis and para-aortic areas. In a collection of 11 cases, the benign lymphoepithelial lesion presented clinically in every case as a tumour of a salivary gland. In eight … case incomplete excision of a lesion of the palate was followed by a recurrence that was cured by a radium mould. The microscopical appearances of the benign lymphoepithelial lesion were identical with those of the salivary lesions of Sjögren's syndrome but in all the cases the lesion was an isolated one and the sicca syndrome was absent.
