Telesurgery across continents: a scoping review.

Intercontinental telesurgery is a surgery where surgeons operate on patients across continents using robots and telecommunication connections. Many parts of the world have limited access to safe and reliable surgery. This review is to understand the emerging technology and infrastructure in intercontinental telesurgery to bridge gaps in surgical care. This scoping review synthesized information from peer reviewed and gray literature published between 2001 and 2025. Databases like PubMed, Google Scholar, and Europe PMC were utilized. The review is organized thematically into schematic of interc

Operative technique in robotic left colonic resection.

Minimally invasive techniques have changed the clinical practice in general surgery and provided an improvement of outcomes. Laparoscopic and open surgery have similar oncological outcomes in the colorectal field. Those findings have been proven by prospective randomized multicenter trials and systematic reviews. However, some colorectal operations are still being performed by the open approach. This is partially related to the technical hurdles of the laparoscopic approach (particularly for more complex cases). Robotic surgery can be beneficial in overcoming the laparoscopic hurdles and limit

[Transoral Robot-Assisted Surgery for Pituitary Gland].

Robotic surgery has been introduced into various surgical fields and is expected to be useful in neurosurgery. Robotic surgery is a technology used to safely and reliably perform minimally invasive surgeries. There are three main types of robotic surgery in neurosurgery: 1)Aids to improve the performance and efficiency of stereotactic surgery; 2)Leader-follower types, such as Da Vinci and hinotori, which enable operations under endoscopy, surgical maneuvers in deep-seated lesions, and operations in areas that are difficult to reach with tools; and 3)Aids to assist the surgeon. Many neurosurgic

Robotic Liver Surgery - Current Standards and Future Perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Robotic liver surgery is emerging as the future of minimal invasive surgery. The robotic surgical system offers a stable camera platform, elimination of physiologic tremor, augmented surgical dexterity as well as improved ergonomics because of a seated operating position. Due to the theoretical advantages of the robotic assisted system, complex liver surgery might be an especially interesting indication for a robotic approach since it demands delicate tissue dissection, precise intracorporeal suturing as well as difficult parenchymal transection with subsequent need for meticulous

A single bicaval venous cannula used for optimization of endoscopic robotically assisted procedures of the heart.

Robotically assisted heart operation is one of the minimally invasive approaches that have revolutionized many surgical procedures. Robotic procedures on the heart, however, are by no means routine, and their optimization requires development of new instruments and techniques. Described here is the robotically assisted use in a sheep model of a new peripherally inserted bicaval venous cannula in the totally endoscopic closure of atrial septal defect. The exposure of the surgical target area was successful with no obstructions in the surgical view. The cannula shows sufficient flow characterist

[Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy for Esophageal Cancer].

Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy for Esophageal Cancer Abstract. Oncological esophagectomy with gastric pull up and intrathoracic represents the standard surgical procedure in the curative treatment of malignant tumors of the esophagus and the esophagogastric junction. The procedure, as two or three body cavities are accessed, has a natural level of invasiveness, which suggests lowering the surgical trauma using minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Because of the complexity of the surgical procedure, minimally invasive esophagectomy is an operation with relevant surgical learning curve. As of now

Voluminous hiatal hernias - the role of robotic surgery.

Robotic surgery has become increasingly prevalent in UGI surgery over the last decade, particularly for treating hiatal hernias. Voluminous hiatal hernias, defined as the herniation of 30-50 % of the stomach into the thorax, often require surgical intervention due to associated dysphagia and potential severe complications. Given the challenges of repairing voluminous hiatal hernias, especially in elderly and fragile patients, the surgical technique should be optimal. Robotic surgery affords excellent visualization, allowing high mediastinal dissection and precise hiatus reconstruction. Despite

Surgical outcomes of robotic-assisted cyst excisions and hepaticojejunostomies in patients with perforated choledochal cysts: a single-center retrospective study.

Perforated choledochal cysts is usually treated by open approach through a one- or two-stage procedure. Laparoscopic procedures are gradually being used more commonly with advancements in minimally invasive technology, while the level of difficulty and conversion rate are still high due to adhesions and deranged anatomy. Robot-assisted choledochal cyst excisions have been proposed as another minimally invasive procedure that is thought to improve operability and precision compared with laparoscopic surgery. However, there is still a lack about the use of robotic assistance for bilio-enteric re
