Effect of preparation taper and sealer type on fracture resistance of mesiobuccal roots with MB2 canals in maxillary first molars: an in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: The mesiobuccal roots of maxillary first molars frequently contain a second mesiobuccal (MB2) canal, where limited dentin thickness near the furcation may compromise root strength during instrumentation. This study evaluated the effects of MB2 preparation taper and sealer type on fracture resistance in these roots. METHODS: Sixty extracted maxillary first molars with an MB2 canal in the mesiobuccal root were identified using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Teeth with two canals in the mesiobuccal root, either separate or merging within the apical 1-2 mm, were included. Mesio

Post-operative pain after single-visit root canal treatment using resin-based and bioceramic sealers in teeth with apical periodontitis: A randomised controlled-trial.

The present study aimed to compare postoperative pain in teeth with symptomatic and asymptomatic apical periodontitis (AP) following a single-visit endodontic treatment using BioRoot™ RCS or AH Plus at 8 h, 24 h and 48 h postoperatively. Postgraduate students performed endodontic treatment on 101 teeth with AP, randomised into two obturation groups. A 100-mm Visual Analog Scale was used to document the intensity of pain at preoperative, 8-h, 24-h and 48-h intervals. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used for normality, and the median and interquartile ranges were compared using the Mann-Whitney

Management of Periapical Lesion and Discoloration with Periapical Microsurgery Followed up by Internal-External Bleaching and Direct Composite Restoration: One-Year Clinical Evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Endodontic treatment outcomes may change over time. Factors such as compromised coronal seal and inadequate obturation can lead to canal reinfection and often periapical infection, thus developing into periapical lesions. Biofilm occupying the surface of the root tip can cause failure of conventional endodontic treatment or retreatment. Healing is achievable depending on the success of efforts to eradicate the biofilm layer from the site. Tooth discoloration after a root canal treatment can also be concerning, with several causes and treatment options. One of the minimally invasive

Minimally Invasive Management of Two Separated Dens Invaginatus Oehler's Type I and II: A Case Report.

Treating coronal dens invaginatus (CDI) with pulp infection typically involves the removal of the invaginatus, which increases the risk of f … owed by irrigation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Calcium hydroxide medication was also applied. Root canal obturation was performed using the warm vertical compaction, employing AH-Plus sealer in combination with thermosplasticized gutta-percha. After 6 and 12 months, the patient showed healing of the periapical region, with the absence of symptoms and normal denta …

The effect of nano chitosan and calcium hydroxide intracanal medications on sealer penetration & bond strength in radicular dentin.

BACKGROUND: A three-dimensional obturation that provides a fluid tight seal of the root canal system is essential for long-term treatment success. Intracanal medicaments may hinder sealer penetration and/or affect its ability to bond with dentin. This study aimed to evaluate the sealer penetration and push-out bond strength after using Calcium hydroxide and a 2% nano-chitosan gel (CSNPs). METHODOLOGY: Twenty-four extracted single-canal lower premolars were randomly divided, according to the intra canal medicament used, into two groups: Group A, Ca(OH)2, and Group B, 2% CSNPs. After medication

Post-operative symptoms and healing after endodontic treatment of infected teeth using pulsed Nd:YAG laser.

Forty-four teeth in 38 patients, diagnosed with chronic apical periodontitis, were endodontically treated. Root canals were shaped using a step-back technique with 5% NaOCl and 3% H2O2 as irrigants. In half of the teeth the canal terminus was irradiated with pulsed Nd:YAG laser (1 W, 15 pps, 1 s). All canals were then obturated with laterally condensed gutta-percha points and sealer, and final radiographs were obtained. Occurrence of spontaneous pain was recorded 1 day after treatment. Percussion pain was recorded after 1 week, and then at 3 and 6 months after treatment. Radiographic follow-up

Comparative Evaluation of Solubility of Gutta-Percha in Three Different Solvents: A Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) Study.

Background Gutta-percha is the most frequently used filling material for root canal obturation. This thermoplastic material fulfills the primary requisites for root canal filling, one of which is easily removable material in cases of endodontic retreatment. The most commonly used solvents were chloroform, xylene, and orange oil due to their effectiveness in dissolving and removing maximum gutta-percha in a minimum time. Aims The aim is to evaluate and compare the solubility of gutta-percha in three different organic solvents, i.e., orange oil, xylene, and chloroform. Methods and material Forty…

The utilization of small amounts of residual endodontic material for dental identification.

Dental information is one of the three scientific methods of identifying a deceased person. However, when an investigator is faced with dental ante-mortem information that indicates the deceased has had all his teeth extracted, it may be assumed that the dental information will not be useful, especially if no retained roots are visible in the post-mortem triage. The following case report highlights that careful examination including radiography, may reveal specific detailed information which was useful for identification to be established. Two small radiopaque objects were located in the apica

Perspectives on periradicular healing using Sealapex: a case report.

The use of the calcium hydroxide-containing root canal sealer, Sealapex, has been questioned regarding its predisposition to solubility and subsequent effect on the root canal seal and periradicular healing. This case report demonstrates, radiographically, dissolution of excess sealer in the periradicular tissues with subsequent osseous repair which was similar to healing in periradicular tissues where there was no extruded sealer.

Management of trauma-induced inflammatory root resorption using mineral trioxide aggregate obturation: two-year follow up.

Inflammatory root resorption is a serious complication of dental trauma, which leads to progressive loss of the root structure. This report describes the treatment a previously traumatized young maxillary lateral incisor, severely affected by inflammatory root resorption. An 11-year-old boy presented with pain and mobility in his maxillary incisors which experienced fall trauma 2 years earlier. Radiographic examination revealed incomplete root development of the right central incisor, associated with advanced inflammatory root resorption and a periapical lesion. Following removal of a prior lo

Treatment of an Endo-Perio Lesion with Ozone Gas in a Patient with Aggressive Periodontitis: A Clinical Case Report and Literature Review.

The pulp and periodontium have obvious relationships that have been described in many studies. Pulp infections may affect periodontal tissues and vice versa. Teeth with endo-perio lesions have a worse prognosis than isolated endodontic or periodontal lesions. Elimination of endodontic and periodontal infections is essential for successful treatment, so co-operation between endodontists and periodontists is necessary. In this clinical case, a 44-year-old male presented with primary periodontal disease with secondary endodontic involvement in his lower right canine because of aggressive periodon
