In this era of microscope-assisted endodontics, finding variations in root canal system anatomy is not uncommon. Operating microscopes combined with careful clinical examination and radiographic interpretation can aid the clinician to successfully treat cases with such internal anatomy. The understanding of this view enables the possible location of additional canals in any tooth requiring endodontic treatment. The present clinical article demonstrates a rare anatomical complexity in the mesial root of a mandibular first molar. Four independent root canal orifices were found in this root by cl

Successful endodontic treatment depends on a comprehensive understanding of root canal anatomy and its possible variations. Radix entomolaris (RE) is a rare anatomical variant characterized by the presence of a supernumerary distolingual root, most frequently found in mandibular first molars. This case report describes the clinical and radiographic identification of an RE in the mandibular first molar of a 42-year-old male patient presenting with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. The additional root was identified during access cavity preparation, necessitating modification of the access outl

Root canal treatment was performed in a mandibular right second premolar with a periapical lesion and apical resorption. The root canal was prepared with K-files using the step-back technique and 3% NaOCl as an irrigant; during obturation gross overfilling of gutta-percha occurred. The tooth was permanently restored with a post and core along with a crown. Although healing of the periapical lesion occurred and the patient reported that he was symptom-free, the tooth was extracted after 4 years because of a subgingival root fracture. Following extraction the tooth was examined with SEM. The exa

The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of pulp vitality on the periodontal reattachment following the free autogenous gingival graft. Maxillary bilateral premolars in each of 4 dogs were used. Denuded root surfaces were prepared after the labial alveolar osteotomies on the experimental region. 4 weeks later, the pulp in the right teeth was exstirpated and the root canals either were filled with gutta percha points and root canal sealer or were left open (infected teeth). The left teeth were kept in the vital pulp as a control. The graft was placed over the denuded root after 4

BACKGROUND: Endodontically treated teeth are more prone to fracture due to structural loss during canal preparation and alterations in dentin biomechanics. Root canal sealers and obturation materials contribute not only to sealing ability but also to potential reinforcement of the remaining tooth structure. However, their influence on fracture resistance remains unclear due to variability in study designs and outcomes.
OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate and synthesize the available evidence on the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth obturated with different root canal seale

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this article was to show the importance of the knowledge of the anatomy of root canals. Unusual root and root canal morphologies associated with both buccal roots of upper molars have been recorded in several studies in the literature. However, scientific information focusing on variations of the palatal root is rare.
METHODS: In this report, four cases are presented involving the root canal treatment of maxillary first and second molars with unusual morphologic configurations of the palatal root canals.
RESULTS: During root canal treatment, type IV and V configu

AIM: To highlight anatomical variation in the mandibular canine.
SUMMARY: Two clinical case reports are presented to illustrate anatomical variation in the human mandibular canine. Endodontic treatment may sometimes fail because morphological features of the tooth adversely affect the treatment procedures. Many investigators have reported the anatomical variations associated with mandibular canines. Mandibular canines are recognized as usually having one root and one root canal in most cases, although approximately 15% may have two canals or sometimes two roots. This paper describes two clini
