Since the introduction of colonoscopic polypectomy, the management of colonic polyps has dramatically changed. What once was a major transabdominal operation now is a routine therapeutic endoscopic procedure. To test the hypothesis of the adenoma-carcinoma sequence histopathologic features of polypoid lesions are retrospectively evaluated. In our experience with 566 polypectomies 430 adenomatous polyps, 71 hyperplastic, 58 inflammatory polyps, and 4 juvenile lesions are reported. Only adenomatous polyps showed dysplasia. Overall, severe and moderate dysplasia was respectively observed in 6.7%

Leiomyomatous colonic polyps are rare. We report a patient with an asymptomatic 15-mm submucosal polyp in the sigmoid colon. The tumor was successfully removed by endoscopy. Histopathological examination revealed a leiomyoma originating in the muscularis mucosa.

A case of endometrioid carcinoma arising from endometriosis of the sigmoid colon is reported. The patient had been treated with unopposed continuous estrogen injection for twenty years after bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy because of severe endometriosis. A 67 year old woman first developed left-sided sensorimotor seizures postoperatively in association with infection and mild hyponatraemia. She was found to have previously unrecognized tuberous sclerosis, with gross pathognomic features: periungual fibromata, facial angiofibromata, calcified subependymal nodules, cortical tubers and multiple renal angiomyolipomata. Her son who was epileptic was also found to have other mild features of tuberous sclerosis as a result. As far as we are aware our patient is the oldest for the first presentation of tuberous sclerosis.

In a prospective study, angiodysplasias were looked for in 824 patients during total coloscopy. Such angiodysplasias were discovered in 30 patients (3.6%). The endoscopic morphology varied, most of the angiodysplasias being smaller than 5 mm (23 patients), with a homogeneous structure in 19, spider-like extensions in only 11 patients.
