Circadian rhythms in body temperature of the pigtailed macaque (Macaca nemestrina) exposed to different ambient temperatures.

The body and leg skin temperatures of five pigtailed macaques (Macaca nemestrina) were measured at various ambient air temperatures ranging from 22 to 32°C over 24-h periods. The rhythm in core body temperature persisted in all ambient air temperatures, and the rhythm in leg skin temperature was suppressed at the higher and lower ambient temperatures. This suggests that at the upper and lower regions of the thermoneutral zone, either a rhythm in heat production or a heat loss rhythm other than leg skin temperature is regulating the core body temperature rhythm. It was also found that the mean …

Role of the adrenal gland in the thermal response to morphine withdrawal in rats.

Administration of naloxone to morphine-dependent rats results in an elevation of tail skin temperature and a fall in core temperature. Previous studies have demonstrated a role of the adrenal gland in the thermal responses that accompany morphine withdrawal in the rat. In the present study, experiments were designed to determine if the duration of adrenalectomy significantly influenced the thermal response observed in morphine withdrawal. In addition we evaluated the influence of the adrenal medulla and glucocorticoid replacement in adrenalectomized rats in mediating the thermal responses of t…

Whole body hyperthermia in dogs using a radiant heating device: effect of surface cooling on temperature uniformity.

Rectal and subcutaneous temperatures were measured during a total of 10 whole body hyperthermia treatments conducted in six dogs. During five of the treatments skin cooling, by means of initiating air flow through the radiant heating device, was necessary during the plateau phase because rectal temperature exceeded the target value. Skin cooling was not necessary in the other five treatments. Although the rectal temperatures were similar in all 10 treatments, extensive and rapid subcutaneous temperature non-uniformity, of approximately 4 degrees C, developed during treatments where skin coolin

Wrist temperature as a sleep marker in actigraphy.

Sleep is closely associated with reductions in core body temperature (CBT), leading to heat loss through the skin. This effect manifests as an increase in distal skin temperature, a hallmark of sleep onset. Actigraphy, a wearable technology for monitoring sleep and circadian rhythms, now includes models with integrated temperature sensors. The present study aimed to determine whether a skin temperature sensor embedded in an actigraph could yield data to more accurately define sleep onset and offset. We collected activity and distal skin temperature data from participants residing in different …

Effects of low-intensity exercise on local skin and whole-body thermal sensation in hypothermic young males.

Thermal sensation, a key component of behavioral thermoregulation, is modulated by the changes in both skin and core temperatures. Although … hat was attached to the chest. The temperature of the probe was initially equilibrated to the chest skin temperature, then gradually decreased at a constant rate (0.1 °C s -1) until the participants felt coolness. The difference between the initial skin temperature and the local skin temperature that felt cool was assessed as an index of local skin thermal sensati …

Long-term, irradiation-induced effects on thermoregulation in the skin after thermal stimulation.

PURPOSE: The morphological effect of radiation on the skin has been adequately analyzed, but the functional effect has received little attention. The purpose of this study was to examine the long-term effects of radiation on the skin from the viewpoint of function. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Physiological changes in the irradiated skin of patients who had undergone breast-conserving therapy for the treatment of breast cancer were examined throughout the follow-up period. Thermal stimulation was applied to both breasts, and changes in skin temperature and sweating reactivity of irradiated and non-…

A multilayered skin-fat-muscle phantom embedded with thermocouples for non-ablative RF heating: numerical simulation and experimental validation.

BACKGROUND: Non-ablative radiofrequency (RF) skin rejuvenation relies on controlled volumetric heating of skin and subcutaneous tissues. Clinical validation is costly and ethically constrained, while simulations require experimental validation. Existing single-layer phantoms cannot capture electrothermal heterogeneities across tissue layers. PURPOSE: To develop a thermocouple-embedded, skin-fat-muscle-mimicking multilayered phantom (MLP) that simulates electrothermal behavior relevant to RF skin rejuvenation and enables depth-resolved temperature measurement for benchtop evaluation and model

Multichannel bed temperature recorder as a monitor of pressure sores.

The objective of this study was the measurement of skin temperature of patients with decubitus ulcers during long-term illness. IC temperature sensors, arranged on the bed sheet, were used to monitor body movement without attaching sensors directly to the skin; the spatial distribution of temperature was measured. The results of these studies showed that decubitus ulcers were caused by reduced body movement; higher temperature distribution was observed in the area of decubitus ulcers than in normal areas. The difference in skin temperature between the decubitus ulcer areas and normal areas var…

[THERMOMETRY APPLICATION FOR ESTIMATION OF THE SKIN BURNS DEPTH].

Determination of the burn wound depth, using noncontact infrared thermometry, permits to predict the burn affection severity, basing on the revealed difference between local, perifocal temperature and temperature in certain nonaffected areas of the body surface. The temperature difference (ΔT) over 1 °C constitutes a strict criterion of the skin burn presence. The temperature 34 °C have been considered a border one for the skin burns. If the burn wound temperature in 24 h after trauma was lower 34 °C and ΔT 2 °C and more, it have witnessed the presence of deep burn of the skin. High sensitivit

Incubation Temperature during Fetal Development Influences Morphophysiological Characteristics and Preferred Ambient Temperature of Chicken Hatchlings.

Skin and feather characteristics, which play a critical role in body temperature maintenance, can be affected by incubation circumstances, such as incubation temperature. However, no study to date has assessed the influence of incubation temperature during the fetal stage on morphometric characteristics and vascular development of the skin, feather characteristics, and their relationship to hormone levels and preferred temperature in later life in chickens. Broiler breeder eggs were exposed to low (36°C), control (37.5°C), or high (39°C) temperatures (treatments LT, CK, and HT, respectively) f
