A benign massive retroperitoneal lipomatous tumor is described. The tumor, from a 72-year-old woman with increasing abdominal girth, consisted of a mixture of mature lipocytes, smooth muscle cells, and thick-walled medium-size blood vessels. Sinonasal leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare and aggressive mesenchymal tumor with smooth muscle differentiation. Leiomyomas are benign tumors arising from smooth muscle of the uterus. Intravenous leiomyomatosis is characterized by intraluminal growth of benign smooth muscle into either venous or lymphatic vessels outside the limits of myoma. It commonly extends into the pelvic veins and manifests as worm-like protrusions of tumor emanating from veins at the parametrial margins of hysterectomy specimen. The tumor can cause life-threatening symptoms if it involves inferior vena cava or right atrium. We report a case of intravenous leiomyomatosis of the uterus managed at our institution.

A leiomyosarcoma arising in a uterine lipoleiomyoma is described in a 70-year-old woman. The tumor measured 11 cm and was located in the corpus uteri. It was composed of a mixture of firm, pale tan, whorled tissue and soft, white or hemorrhagic areas. Histologically, the firm tissue was a mixture of bland smooth muscle, fat and fibrous tissue, whereas the soft areas showed a malignant spindle cell tumor with smooth muscle differentiation. Pure sarcoma similar to the malignant portion of the lipoleiomyoma had metastasized to the vaginal wall.

INTRODUCTION: The rare variant of renal epithelioid/pleomorphic angiomyolipoma has been reported in approximately 120 cases. One of the most important characteristics to differentiate these tumors from other renal cell neoplasms is their typical reactivity to premelanosome antigens. Primary benign paraurethral tumors in females are observed only rarely. They may occasionally be detected at physical examination or present with symptoms of bladder outlet obstruction. A leiomyoma originating from the smooth muscle fibers of the urethra in a 43-year-old woman is reported. The benign nature of the lesion was suspected on the basis of transvaginal ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging. Surgical enucleation was performed and light microscopy showed a well-differentiated smooth muscle tumor.

Thirty-two 4-month-old to 19-year-old female miniature pet pigs were spayed. Uterine lesions were present in all except 8 pigs. BACKGROUND: Intraocular smooth muscle tumors have long been a subject of controversy. The advent of immunohistochemistry with antibodies against HMB-45, S-100, smooth muscle actin, desmin, and vimentin has helped greatly in the distinction between smooth muscle tumors and melanocytic lesions.
METHODS: Twenty-seven archival tissue blocks from patients who had had intraocular leiomyomas or leiomyosarcomas diagnosed were located and fresh sections cut and stained for the above markers. The cases constituted 24 iris lesions and 3 ciliary body lesions.

We report 30 uterine tumors composed of an admixture of endometrioid glands, endometrioid stroma, and smooth muscle that lacked the characteristic features of atypical polypoid adenomyoma. The patients ranged from 26 to 64 (median 47) years of age. The usual presenting symptom was abnormal vaginal bleeding, which was "massive" in two patients. AIM: The study was conducted to delineate the histological problems in diagnosing uterine mesenchymal tumors in morcellated material.
METHODS: All cases of morcellated uteri performed between 2008 and 2014 were reviewed. The incidence of unexpected malignancy, defined as any neoplasm with a clear-cut diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma (LMS) or endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS), was noted. We report eight cases of benign uterine smooth muscle neoplasms with unusual growth patterns and intramural dissection. All the patients in our series were of reproductive age or perimenopausal (range, 36-51 years) and had an enlarged uterus or a pelvic mass, with the exception of one lesion that was found incidentally in a patient treated for uterine prolapse. With a follow up of 14 years, a benign intra nodal palissading smooth muscle tumor is reported as an original lesion because of the expression of HMB 45. This antibody is now well known to be expressed by non melanocytic smooth muscle lesions, like angiomyolipoma, "sugar tumors" of the lung, pulmonary lymphangiomyomatosis and some others, often linked to tuberous sclerosis.
