Correction approaches and hashtag framing in addressing Mpox misinformation on Instagram.

The rapid spread of health misinformation on social media poses significant challenges to public health crisis. Mpox misinformation has portrayed it as exclusively a sexually transmitted infection, resulting in misperceptions about infection risk and stigmatization of affected groups. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of different correction approaches and message framing in reducing misperception and shaping disease-related attitudes, both immediately after exposure and after a 1-day delay. We employed a 2 × 2 design with a control group to test correction approaches (fact-based

To defend or to affiliate: The effects of categorical similarity cues after social exclusion.

This article proposed that after social exclusion, individuals may react in a hostile or amiable manner, which depends on the type of categorical similarity cues that new groups possess. For excluded individuals, groups that resemble their excluder would provoke a defensive attitude. They also exhibit hospitality to groups that resemble themselves to gain inclusion. In Experiment 1, social exclusion was manipulated by providing a scenario story regarding an individual who was excluded and subsequently wanted to join in new groups. The results indicated that participants in the social exclusion

Teaching about vulnerable populations: nursing students' experience in a homeless center.

Cultural competence is not limited to ethnicity, religion, or race but is inclusive of vulnerable groups, such as the homeless. The complex health and social issues related to homelessness requires educational instruction that supports students' ability to address and care for the multidimensional elements that surround this group. Exposure to homeless populations provides nursing students with increased awareness of the issues related to health disparities, while promoting introspective reflection on one's values and beliefs. To increase student exposure to working with homeless clients, a se

Social interaction in borderline personality disorder.

Studies on natural long-term course of borderline personality disorder (BPD) as well as on treatment outcome suggest that social integration remains seriously unsatisfactory in the majority of the subjects concerned. Identification of typical borderline problems in social interaction should facilitate both, treatment development and elucidation of the related neuropsychological mechanisms and underpinnings. This review focuses on the experimental investigation of three core domains of social interaction: social affiliation, cooperation and hostility. Data converge, that patients meeting criter

Community Feedback on Adapting a Training to Improve Social Reactions to Sexual Violence for LGBTQ+ Young Adults.

Sexual violence disproportionately impacts LGBTQ+ young adults, yet few interventions have been tailored to equip their communities with the skills to respond supportively to disclosures of sexual violence. Social reactions, or how a person responds to a disclosure, play a critical role in shaping survivors' health outcomes, such as psychological wellbeing. The purpose of this project was to identify what adaptations needed to be made to an existing social reactions intervention (Supporting Survivors and Self; SSS) so that SSS is relevant and impactful for LGBTQ+ communities. Using a theater t

Ethics and Inequities in the Context of Urgency : A Qualitative Study With Stakeholders on COVID-19 Decision-Making in Germany and Israel.

Urgent decision-making during the early COVID-19 pandemic raised complex ethical challenges, in particular concerning how to reach and include marginalized populations. To examine these issues, we conducted a qualitative study based on twenty-three semi-structured interviews with pandemic decision-makers and representatives of marginalized populations in Germany and Israel, focusing on decisions made in 2020 before vaccines were available. Key ethical themes emerged, including decision-making with ethical relevance under intense time pressure, the dominance of biomedical framings often at the

Social Function and Autism Spectrum Disorder in Children and Adults with Neurofibromatosis Type 1: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

In light of the proliferation of recent research into social function in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), a systematic review and meta-analysis is required to synthesise data and place findings within the context of a theoretical framework. This paper reviews findings from research into social function and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children and adults with NF1 and integrates these findings with the Socio-Cognitive Integration Abilities Model (SOCIAL). It also critically appraises links between social outcomes, internal and external factors moderating social functioning, cognitive domain

Adaptive invention: independence and mobility through modifications.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is a leading cause of disability that limits everyday activities and reduces social participation. Provision of assistive devices helps to achieve independence and social inclusion. However, due to limited resources or a lack of suited objects for their needs, individuals with disabilities in low and middle income countries (LMIC) often do not have access to assistive devices. This has resulted in the creation of purpose built innovative solutions. Methodology and case content: This paper uses a single case derived from a larger ethnographic study of stroke survivors in rura…

The relationship between social support and sleep quality in older adults: A review of the evidence.

OBJECTIVES: Sleep quality is crucial for the health and well-being of older adults, and social support has been consistently shown to be related to sleep quality. However, there is a need for research to understand the mechanisms through which these two factors are linked. The purpose of this review is to synthesize scientific literature on the relationship between social support and sleep quality in older adults. METHODS: Using an integrative review method, this review was conducted for a period from January 2012 to November 2022 using a combination of keywords related to social support and

Spinal Cord Injury as a Socially Lived Disability: A Phenomenological Study of Rehabilitation and Everyday Life Among Community-Dwelling Individuals.

Background/Objectives: Spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to long-term changes in mobility, bodily function, and everyday participation, extending beyond physical impairment to affect autonomy, identity, and social inclusion. In Greece, limited community-based rehabilitation services, environmental inaccessibility, and fragmented follow-up care further shape the lived experience of individuals with SCI. This study aimed to explore the lived experiences and perceived rehabilitation needs of people with paraplegia living in the community, adopting a phenomenological approach to understand rehabilita…

The Protective Effect of Social Reward on Opioid and Psychostimulant Reward and Relapse: Behavior, Pharmacology, and Brain Regions.

Until recently, most modern neuroscience research on addiction using animal models did not incorporate manipulations of social factors. Social factors play a critical role in human addiction: social isolation and exclusion can promote drug use and relapse, while social connections and inclusion tend to be protective. Here, we discuss the state of the literature on social factors in animal models of opioid and psychostimulant preference, self-administration, and relapse. We first summarize results from rodent studies on behavioral, pharmacological, and circuit mechanisms of the protective effec
