The development of multisensory integration in high-functioning autism: high-density electrical mapping and psychophysical measures reveal impairments in the processing of audiovisual inputs.

Successful integration of auditory and visual inputs is crucial for both basic perceptual functions and for higher-order processes related to social cognition. Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are characterized by impairments in social cognition and are associated with abnormalities in sensory and perceptual processes. Several groups have reported that individuals with ASD are impaired in their ability to integrate socially relevant audiovisual (AV) information, and it has been suggested that this contributes to the higher-order social and cognitive deficits observed in ASD. However, successful

Measuring community integration using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and participatory mapping for people who were once homeless.

Measures of community integration rely on self-report assessments that often quantify physical or social participation, but fail to capture the individual׳s spatial presence in the community. The current study documents the activity space, or area of daily experiences, of 37 individuals who were once homeless through participatory mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Contrary to expectations, there was no significant relationship between activity space size and community integration measures, except a negative association with physical integration. Further analysis revealed, howev

Perceived integration as a gratification facilitator: psychological drivers of students' continuance intention in blended learning.

What sustains students' intention to continue using educational technology? In blended learning, prior research identifies satisfaction as a key predictor of continuance intention but often treats it as a single construct and pays limited attention to the environmental conditions that enable different forms of gratification. This study extends Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT) in two ways. First, it introduces perceived integration as an environmental antecedent of gratification. Perceived integration captures the coherence students perceive between online and offline learning components an

How Does Digital Integration Influence the Mental Health of Low-Income Populations?

Background: In recent years, the growing prevalence of digital technology has transformed every aspect of life, including mental health care and support. Digital integration-referring to both access to digital technology and the utilization of digital tools in daily life-has the potential to alleviate existing health inequalities, a phenomenon that has been labeled the 'digital divide'. It is, therefore, imperative to gain an understanding of the mental health dynamics of vulnerable groups in the context of the digital age if we are to develop effective policies and interventions. Objectives:

Understanding the primary health care experiences of individuals who are homeless in non-traditional clinic settings.

BACKGROUND: Despite the widespread implementation of Health Care for the Homeless programs that focus on comprehensive, integrated delivery systems of health care for people experiencing homelessness, engaging and retaining people experiencing homelessness in primary care remains a challenge. Few studies have looked at the primary care delivery model in non-traditional health care settings to understand the facilitators and barriers to engagement in care. The objective of our study was to explore the clinic encounters of individuals experiencing homelessness receiving care at two different sit

Spatio-temporal activity of brain electrical sources during processing of abstract social concepts.

concepts frequently refer to socialness, i.e. knowledge about interactions between people. Grounded cognition theories propose that such social concepts are represented in brain circuits involved in processing social interactions. The present event-related potential study investigated the time course of electrical brain activity in response to abstract social concepts compared to abstract control concepts presented during a lexical decision task. Analysis of estimated volume source activity revealed increased activity to social concepts in the left insula with an onset of 216 ms and somewhat l

Does Timing Matter? Age of First Mobile Phone Acquisition and Psychological Outcomes in Middle and Late Adolescence.

The age at which adolescents acquire their first smartphone has decreased markedly in recent years; however, evidence on its long-term effects on psychosocial adjustment remains limited. This study investigated whether age at first mobile phone acquisition is associated with psychosocial functioning in middle and late adolescence, including social integration and competence, emotion regulation difficulties, disordered eating behaviors and problematic social media use (PSMU). The sample comprised 1179 adolescents aged 15-17 years (53.8% female). Linear regression and generalized additive mixed …

Therapy-facilitated integration responsibility: qualitative interviews with refugee psychotherapy clients in Germany.

BACKGROUND: Many refugees experience substantial pre-, peri- and post-migration stress resulting in high prevalence rates of mental disorders. Additionally, refugees face significant challenges integrating into their host society. Even though access to psychotherapy for refugees might impact the integration process beneficially, research on refugees' perspectives on psychotherapy, integration and the interaction with emotional distress is limited. This study explores refugees' perspectives on how psychotherapy may influence their integration process and enhance their psychological well-being.

Prolactin is an autocrine or paracrine growth factor for human myometrial and leiomyoma cells.

Over the last two decades, immigrant and refugee integration service agencies in Canada have been incorporating a focus on resiliency in their work and hold "fostering resilience" as a primary goal of services. These agencies focus on helping their clients enhance resilience in response to their integration challenges. Refugee and immigrant youth (RIY) face intersectional vulnerabilities during their resettlement process. These challenges make the concept of resilience vital to their success. However, resettlement service providers associate RIY's resilience with their assimilation into the We
