Implementation of a peer-delivered opioid overdose response initiative in New York City emergency departments: Insight from multi-stakeholder qualitative interviews.

BACKGROUND: Emergency departments (EDs) are critical touchpoints for overdose prevention efforts. In New York City (NYC), the Health Department's Relay initiative dispatches trained peer "Wellness Advocates" (WAs) to engage with patients in EDs after an overdose and for up to 90 days subsequently. Interest in peer-delivered interventions for patients at risk for overdose has grown nationally, but few studies have explored challenges and opportunities related to implementing such interventions in EDs. METHODS: We conducted in-depth interviews with Relay WAs, ED patients, and ED providers acros

Describing High School Stakeholders' Preferences for a Return-to-School Framework Following Concussion.

BACKGROUND: Return to school supports are recommended to facilitate adolescents' re-entry to school following a concussion. However, little is known as to what school stakeholders prefer for a return-to-school process. This study sought to describe the preferences of high school students, parents, and educators for a Return-to-School Framework for adolescents following a concussion. METHODS: We conducted qualitative semi-structured, 1-on-1 or group interviews with high school students (n = 6), parents (n = 5), and educators (n = 15) from Calgary, Canada. Interviews aimed to describe participa

Public and professional stakeholders' perceptions of alcohol advertising and availability policies: A qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Reducing alcohol availability and restricting alcohol advertising are effective ways to reduce harm from alcohol. Implementation of public health policies involves collaboration between different stakeholders, and is influenced by public opinion. This paper explores public and professional stakeholders' perceptions of alcohol advertising and availability policies. It is the first to capture consensus and divergence in narratives of these stakeholders. METHODS: We conducted semi-structured interviews with 14 stakeholders from third sector organisations, government, public health

Applying reflective multicriteria decision analysis to understand the value of therapeutic alternatives in the management of gestational and peripartum anaemia in Spain.

BACKGROUND: The objective of the FeminFER project was to assess the value of ferric carboxymaltose following a multicriteria decision analysis in obstetrics and gynaecology in Spain. METHODS: Ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) and ferrous sulphate were evaluated using the EVIDEM framework. Ten stakeholders participated to collect different perspectives. The framework was adapted considering evidence retrieved with a PICO-S search strategy and grey literature. Criteria/subcriteria were weighted by level of relevance and an evidence-based decision-making exercise was developed in each criterion; weigh

Design, implement, and diffuse scalable and sustainable solutions for dementia care.

Most innovations developed to reduce the burden of Alzheimer disease and other related dementias (ADRD) are difficult to implement, diffuse, and scale. The consequences of such challenges in design, implementation, and diffusion are suboptimal care and resulting harm for people living with ADRD and their caregivers. National experts identified four factors that contribute to our limited ability to implement and diffuse of evidence-based services and interventions for people living with ADRD: (1) limited market demand for the implementation and diffusion of effective ADRD interventions; (2) ins

The Response to and Impact of the Ebola Epidemic: Towards an Agenda for Interdisciplinary Research.

BACKGROUND: The 2013-2016 Ebola virus disease (EVD) epidemic in West Africa was the largest in history and resulted in a huge public health burden and significant social and economic impact in those countries most affected. Its size, duration and geographical spread presents important opportunities for research than might help national and global health and social care systems to better prepare for and respond to future outbreaks. This paper examines research needs and research priorities from the perspective of those who directly experienced the EVD epidemic in Guinea. METHODS: The paper rep

Core Outcome Domains for early phase clinical trials of sound-, psychology-, and pharmacology-based interventions to manage chronic subjective tinnitus in adults: the COMIT'ID study protocol for using a Delphi process and face-to-face meetings to establish consensus.

BACKGROUND: The reporting of outcomes in clinical trials of subjective tinnitus indicates that many different tinnitus-related complaints are of interest to investigators, from perceptual attributes of the sound (e.g. loudness) to psychosocial impacts (e.g. quality of life). Even when considering one type of intervention strategy for subjective tinnitus, there is no agreement about what is critically important for deciding whether a treatment is effective. The main purpose of this observational study is, therefore to, develop Core Outcome Domain Sets for the three different intervention strate

Who Should Decide the Outcome for a Clinical Trial? Comparing the Views of Stakeholders on Intervention Benefit Using Multi-Criteria Decision Modelling of Cognitive Remediation.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS: Trials rarely include outcomes co-developed with stakeholders, which creates uncertainty about whether trial endpoints reflect the benefits valued by patients and clinicians. There is therefore a need to explore how stakeholder perspectives might influence the interpretation of trial results. STUDY DESIGN: In a 2-phase study, we first engaged service users and staff to rank outcomes from a recently completed randomized controlled trial of cognitive remediation therapy (CRT). We then used multi-criteria decision modelling to generate value-weighted composite scores a

Aesthetics over health: stakeholder perceptions of residential window design, indoor ventilation, disease risk, and energy use in urban Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Residential window design is a primary determinant of natural ventilation in urban housing; however, the factors driving window design choices in rapidly urbanizing sub-Saharan African cities remain poorly understood. In Dar es Salaam Tanzania, sliding aluminum windows have become increasingly dominant in the residential housing market, yet evidence on how stakeholder perceptions of these designs relate to indoor ventilation adequacy, disease risk, and household energy use remains scarce. METHOD: This mixed-methods study was conducted in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, between July and Oc

Multi-stakeholder perspectives on cervical cancer screening implementation in Indonesia: A qualitative study of cervical screening barriers in Banda Aceh.

Indonesia is committed to the WHO's cervical cancer elimination strategy through the National Action Plan for Cervical Cancer Elimination 2023-2030, aiming to achieve 75% screening coverage by 2030. However, current rates remain critically low at 7.02%. This study aimed to explore the multi-stakeholder perspectives to identify implementation barriers and facilitators for policy enhancement. A qualitative descriptive case study was conducted in Banda Aceh (July-August 2025) involving 25 stakeholders: the City Health Office head, 11 Puskesmas heads, 11 coordinators of visual inspection with acet

To adopt or adapt an existing COS for neonatal research: qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Core outcome sets (COS) standardise the outcomes reported in clinical trials and research, reducing outcome heterogeneity and enabling evidence synthesis. Most neonatal COS have been developed in high-income country (HIC) contexts and may not reflect the priorities, health system capacities, or disease burden of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Kenya's neonatal mortality rate remains high at 21 per 1000 live births, yet no COS exists for neonatal care and research in Kenya or, more broadly, in sub-Saharan Africa. This study aimed to develop a contextually appropriate COS f

Dance for health impact in a rural Scottish island community: understanding stakeholder experiences.

Research and practice around dance for promoting health and well-being are rapidly expanding, especially dance for chronic neurological conditions. Yet, research has primarily focused on assessing individual-level therapeutic outcomes, providing limited insight into broader stakeholder voices and community-level health impacts. In response, a longitudinal qualitative interview study was conducted to explore stakeholder perspectives on the community impact of a collaborative, community-centred dance for multiple sclerosis (MS) initiative in a rural Scottish island community. Stakeholders' views on public-private partnerships for rehabilitation services in South Africa ahead of National Health Insurance.

BACKGROUND: Quality rehabilitation services are limited in rural South African areas, such as KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Public-private partnerships (PPPs) are increasingly valued as an effective model for public health delivery in developing countries; yet, their application in South Africa's rehabilitation sector, especially with the upcoming National Health Insurance (NHI) for universal health coverage, remains unclear. This study examined perspectives on using PPPs for rehabilitation services within the District Health System in KZN in preparation for the NHI. METHODS: A qualitative study in eT

Improving Miscarriage Prevention Research: a survey exploring the expectations of service users and stakeholders (IMPRESS) - a study protocol for a UK-based survey.

INTRODUCTION: Interventional clinical trials in recurrent miscarriage use varying expected effect sizes to inform their sample size calculations. Often these are not informed by what stakeholders consider a meaningful treatment effect. Adaptive trial designs may integrate stakeholder views on trial success and futility but the criteria to inform this is lacking. This study aims to understand relevant stakeholder views of what is considered a worthwhile treatment effect for miscarriage prevention interventions and what is acceptable stopping criteria in miscarriage clinical trials.
