Knotless Suture Anchor With Suture Tape Quadriceps Tendon Repair Is Biomechanically Superior to Transosseous and Traditional Suture Anchor-Based Repairs in a Cadaveric Model.

PURPOSE: To compare the biomechanical properties of a knotless suture anchor with suture tape quadriceps tendon repair technique with transosseous and suture anchor repair techniques. METHODS: Twenty matched pairs of cadaveric knees underwent a quadriceps tendon avulsion followed by repair via the use of transosseous tunnels with #2 high-strength sutures, 5.5-mm biocomposite fully threaded suture anchors with #2 high-strength sutures, or 4.75-mm biocomposite knotless suture anchors with suture tape. Ten knees were repaired via transosseous repair and 10 via fully threaded suture anchor repair…

Comparison of barbed suture and nonbarbed suture for laparoscopic cholecystoduodenostomy in rabbits: a randomized controlled trial.

This study aims to compare the applied efficacy of barbed suture versus non-barbed suture, as well as various stitching techniques, for laparoscopic cholecystoduodenostomy (LCD) in rabbits (imitating infants) to determine the most viable suture option. LCD was performed in a total of 45 male New Zealand white rabbits. The rabbits were equally divided into three groups: the SFB group (single-layer full-thickness running suture using barbed sutures), the SSB group (simple seromuscular layer running suture using barbed sutures) and the PDS group (single-layer full-thickness running suture using P…

The Trapezoidal Sling Suture: A Technical Note of a Novel Suturing Technique for Tunneling Flap Procedures.

The aim of this report is to describe a new sling suturing method with papillary anchorage that is clinically applicable within the available conventional root-coverage tunneling procedures. Although caution is advised to not increase excessive tension on the fragile papilla tips, as they provide coronal and palatal suspension, the tension used with this method ascertains a firm and stable connection for the entire buccogingival graft complex into the horizontal and vertical dimensions of both single and multiple recession defects. This technical note describes the 'trapezoidal sling suture' t

Comparative study of absorbable suture and permanent suture in sacrocolpopexy: a meta-analysis and systematic review.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The aim of this study was to compare the surgical results and the complications of absorbable suture (AS) versus permanent suture (PS) in sacrocolpopexy (SCP). METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, ClinicalTrials.gov, and the Cochrane Library Central Register of Controlled Trials for articles in which researchers compared AS with PS in SCP. The primary outcomes were the surgical success rate and suture-related complications (suture exposure/erosion, mesh erosion, and suture removal). All analyses were performed with Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS: Four

A biomechanical comparison of a novel two-loop suture technique and two sutures for laryngoplasty in the horse.

OBJECTIVES: Evaluation of the strength of the novel suture technique by comparison with a 2-interrupted suture technique. SAMPLE: 40 equine larynges. PROCEDURES: 40 larynges were used; 16 laryngoplasties were performed using the currently accepted 2-suture technique and 16 using the novel suture technique. These specimens were subjected to a single cycle to failure. Eight specimens were used to compare the rima glottidis area achieved with 2 different techniques. RESULTS: The mean force to failure, as well as the rima glottidis area of both constructs, were not significantly different. The

Suture Cells in a Mechanical Stretching Niche: Critical Contributors to Trans-sutural Distraction Osteogenesis.

Trans-sutural distraction osteogenesis has been proposed as an alternative technique of craniofacial remodelling surgery for craniosynostosi … fibroblasts, immune cells (macrophages and T cells), mesenchymal stem cells and collagen fibres in sutures during the distraction osteogenesis process. We also briefly review the contribution of cell-cell or cell-matrix interactions to bone regeneration at the osteogenic suture front from a comprehensive viewpoint.

Modified Subcutaneous Buried Horizontal Mattress Suture Compared With Vertical Buried Mattress Suture.

BACKGROUND: Wound tension reduction is still a challenge to surgeons. Over the years, many techniques have been proposed to avoid this issue. In this paper, we present a new suture technique. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the tension-reduction effectiveness of the modified subcutaneous buried horizontal mattress suture compared with the vertical buried mattress suture technique. METHODS: Two suture techniques, the vertical buried mattress suture (group A) and the modified subcutaneous buried horizontal mattress suture (group B), were performed on paired samples of symmetrical skin flaps. An equ

Evaluation of absorbable and nonabsorbable sutures for repair of achilles tendon rupture with a suture-guiding device.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to compare the functional and clinical results of Achilles tendon repairs with an Achilles tendon suture-guiding device using nonabsorbable versus absorbable sutures. We hypothesized that the absorbable suture would have clinical results comparable to those of the nonabsorbable suture for Achilles tendon repair with an Achilles tendon suture-guiding system. METHODS: From January 2010 to September 2013, 48 consecutive patients who had sustained a spontaneous rupture of the Achilles tendon underwent operative repair with an Achilles tendon suture-guidin…

Secondary suturing compared to non-suturing for broken down perineal wounds following childbirth.

BACKGROUND: Each year approximately 350,000 women in the United Kingdom and millions more worldwide, experience perineal suturing following childbirth. The postpartum management of perineal trauma is a core component of routine maternity care. However, for those women whose perineal wound dehisces (breaks down), the management varies depending on individual practitioners preferences as there is limited scientific evidence and no clear guidelines to inform best practice. For most women the wound will be managed expectantly whereas, others may be offered secondary suturing. OBJECTIVES: To evalu

Development of secondary unilateral coronal suture synostosis with a sagittal suture synostosis in a nonsyndromic patient.

Multiple-suture synostosis is typically associated with syndromic craniosynostosis but has been occasionally reported in large series of nonsyndromic children. The diagnosis of multiple fused sutures usually occurs at the same time, but rarely has the chronological development of a secondary suture synostosis been noted. The development of secondary bicoronal suture synostosis requiring surgical intervention has only been reported, to date, after surgical intervention and is hypothesized to arise from a disruption of inhibitory factors from the dura. The disinhibition of these factors permits …

Uterine compression sutures for post-partum bleeding with atony; modification of the B-Lynch suture.

We have described a modification of the B-Lynch uterine compression suture which is simple and effective. This technique apposes the anterior and posterior uterine walls, obliterating the cavity and thereby provides effective control of post-partum haemorrhage as a result of uterine atony. It comprises of vertical compression sutures and is distinct from B-Lynch and Haymen's suture by having an additional firm puncture just below the uterine fundus. This means that the suture is transfixed at the uterine fundus, thus eliminating the risk of the sutures sliding off at the uterine fundus.

A biomechanical comparison of transosseous-suture anchor and suture bridge rotator cuff repairs in cadavers.

BACKGROUND: Several biomechanical studies comparing open and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair methods have shown inferior performance of arthroscopic repairs. Suture anchor-augmented transosseous repairs and suture bridge repairs have shown superior biomechanical performance when compared with other methods, but these 2 repair methods have not been directly compared. HYPOTHESIS: There will be no difference in the biomechanical performance of the transosseous-suture anchor and suture bridge techniques. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: Eight paired cadaveric shoulder specim

[Segmental mitral suture annuloplasty combined with resection--suture technique for posterior leaflet prolapse].

A segmental mitral suture annuloplasty technique is consisted of double-layer sutures anchored in the fibrous trigone on the valve repair side and along the annulus to the midpoint of the posterior leaflet. This suture technique is an alternative of Paneth Burr method using only one-side of the procedure. We recommend this technique especially in cases of mitral regurgitation which can be repaired by a simple resection-suture technique for posterior leaflet, and not in cases of severe annular dilatation, rheumatic, or ischemic diseases. We have examined this technique in 40 cases over the last…

Dual-Action Sutures: Chlorhexidine and Dexamethasone for Infection Control and Inflammation Suppression.

Surgical site infections (SSIs) remain a major clinical challenge, particularly due to bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation on suture materials. In this study, we developed a dual drug-eluting suture incorporating chlorhexidine (CHX) and dexamethasone (DEX), with lauric acid used as a binding agent to enhance drug adhesion. The exact composition of the system was CHX/DEX/Lauric Acid, designed to enable localized delivery of both therapeutic agents at the implantation site. Vicryl sutures were dip-coated and characterized by means of FTIR-ATR and HPLC to confirm drug incorporation and relea…

Biomechanical Comparison of Lateral Meniscus Radial Tear Repair Patterns Using Rebar Sutures.

BACKGROUND: There is an opportunity to implement improved techniques for the repair of radial meniscus tears; previous studies have shown a benefit to the addition of rebar or "ripstop" sutures parallel to the tear, forming "hashtag constructs" to strengthen the repair of radial meniscus tears. Studies have not directly compared different types of rebar constructs. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The study purpose is to evaluate the biomechanical properties of different suture repair patterns for lateral meniscus tears, including patterns with and without rebar sutures, as well as all-inside and capsule-…
