Three-Dimensional-Printed Splint for Use in Pediatric Mandibular Fracture.

Mandibular fractures are the most common type, accounting for about 71% of facial fractures in children. The mandible is the only movable bone in the craniomaxillofacial region. The injury of the mandible has a serious impact on the functions of children's mouth opening, chewing, pronunciation, and occlusion. Therefore, the treatment of children's mandibular fractures is particularly important. Because of the characteristics of children with permanent tooth germ blocking and strong skeletal development, the treatment methods of adults cannot simply be used in children with mandibular fractures

Prognosis of teeth in the line of jaw fractures.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The decision as to whether teeth in the line of jaw fractures should be extracted or retained remains a controversial issue. The aim of this study was to assess the prognosis of teeth directly in the line of, and adjacent to, jaw fracture sites. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study consisted of 50 patients with facial fractures in the dentate region, the diagnosis of which was made on the basis of clinical and radiographic examinations. A total of 124 teeth were present in 69 fracture sites (50 patients), of which 89 teeth were evaluated both, clinically (tooth mobility, pocket de

In-vitro comparison of fracture resistance of CAD/CAM porcelain restorations for endodontically treated molars.

BACKGROUND: This study evaluates the fracture strength and patterns of feldspathic porcelain restorations made using CAD/CAM technology for lower first molars with extensive crown destruction. The restorations include post-core and full-contour crown, composite resin core and full-contour crown, and endocrown. This research provides insights into effective restorative options to address tooth fracture risk, supporting minimally invasive procedures and CAD/CAM integration in dental practices. METHODS: This study utilized 80 permanent mandibular first molars, which were divided into four groups

New-onset haemoptysis and associated lung mass in the setting of dental care avoidance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We present a case of new-onset haemoptysis and associated lung lesion on chest imaging in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was believed to be due to dental care avoidance after tooth fracture and long-term use of temporary dental filler, with subsequent aspiration and bronchial injury. Our patient underwent bronchoscopy due to persistent haemoptysis with findings of mild traumatic injury. She responded to conservative management with no pharmacologic intervention. With time, there was resolution of symptoms and radiographic improvement of the lung lesion. We include a brief discussio

Retention strength of tin plated gold inlays bonded with two resin cements.

Research has shown bonding of restorations to tooth structure to enhance retention of the restoration to increase the fracture resistance of the tooth, and to reduce microleakage. Resin cements have superior physical properties to traditional cements such as zinc phosphate. The purpose of this study was to compare the retention of gold inlays luted with two resin cements to that of those luted with zinc phosphate cement.

Complex Dentoalveolar Trauma in a Growing Patient: Management of Avulsion and Alveolar Fracture.

Traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) involving both tooth avulsion and alveolar fracture present significant clinical challenges, particularly in growing patients, where long-term restorative planning must accommodate ongoing craniofacial development. This report describes the multidisciplinary management of an 11-year-old boy who sustained avulsion of tooth #21 and an associated alveolar fracture following a sports-related injury. Clinical and cone-beam computed tomography evaluations revealed an alveolar segment fracture extending from teeth #12 to #21. The displaced segment was manually reposit

Radiographic Outcome of the Endodontic Treatment of 55 Fractured Canine Teeth in 43 Dogs (2013-2018).

Medical records from 4 private practice veterinary dentistry specialty clinics were reviewed for a 5-year period (2013-2018) to identify dogs that had a fractured canine tooth treated by root canal therapy and returned for subsequent follow-up evaluation. Evaluation criteria included the presence of complete medical records with diagnostic quality intraoral radiographs for each procedure visit with a minimum of 6 months between visits. Forty-three dogs with a total of 55 endodontically treated canine teeth were identified and evaluated. Root canal treatment outcome was defined as successful, n

Preserving alveolar bone growth following cervical root fracture: a case report.

Root fracture injuries affect 0.5%-7% of permanent teeth. Although cervical root fractures are less frequent in children, their serious consequences and poor prognosis may lead to tooth loss. In this case presentation, we discuss a treatment approach chosen to preserve alveolar bone growth following a cervical root fracture in an 8-Year-old boy.

[Aftercare for durability and profitability of single-unit and multi-unit fixed dental prostheses].

An important aim ofa treatment with single-unit and multi-unit fixed dental prostheses is a durable and profitable treatment outcome. That requires aftercare, too. First, the frequency of routine oral examinations should be assessed, using an individual risk profile. The objectives of the routine oral examinations are the prevention and, when necessary, the treatment of pathological conditions and complications. With regard to prevention, attention should be paid to information and instruction, oral biofilm and calculus, non-functional activities, hard tooth tissues, periodontal and peri-impla

Color Repair of a Composite Resin Restoration.

Fractured teeth with both enamel and dentin involvement might be treated with adhesive composite resin restorations. In cases where a perfect color match between the composite restoration and the remaining tooth structure is not achieved, a repair might be carried out to correct the color of restoration. This procedure avoids the restoration replacement, preserving tooth structure without compromising the esthetic outcome.

Use of Hedstrom file for removal of fractured root tips.

The foregoing case report describes a procedure that can be used to remove newly fractured roots. It is recommended that a Hedstrom file be used in cases in which the roots are loosened before they are fractured and provided that proper visibility and sufficient space in the root canal in which to introduce the file exist. This method, used alone or in combination with closed or open procedures, can be helpful for removing roots that are close to the maxillary sinus or mandibular canal. In the aforementioned case, the Hedstrom file's being threaded into the root tip was a safeguard against pus

Conservative management of a horizontal root fracture in a primary maxillary central incisor: Case report.

Dental trauma occurs frequently in toddlers and the treatment protocols vary depending on each case. Thus, clinicians must not only plan the treatment but also consider any possible sequelae and characteristics related to the child and the family. The aim of this paper was to report a case of a three-year-old boy who had a horizontal root fracture in the middle third of the primary maxillary right incisor root (tooth 51) and crown discoloration of the primary maxillary left incisor (tooth 61) which were successfully treated with conservative management. The management was established in agreem

Root fractures in permanent teeth: a clinical review.

A retrospective study of 22 root fractures in 21 patients was performed. Ten patients were less than 11 years of age, and boys were involved more often than girls. Ten patients had more than one injured tooth, but there was no case of alveolar fracture. Twenty-one of the teeth were upper central incisors. Only 11 teeth were seen within the first week, so that not all teeth were splinted and not all displaced teeth were repositioned. Long-term clinical and radiographic review showed that loss of vitality of the coronal pulp could not be reliably detected for at least 1 year. No tooth became abs

Super Minimally Invasive Pulp Therapy for Severe Pulpitis: A Report of Two Cases.

In regions where preventive dentistry is widespread, tooth loss due to root fracture occurs approximately 10 times more frequently than that due to caries and periodontal disease. Root fracture is most likely to occur in non-vital teeth, where the dental pulp has been removed, often through a procedure known as pulpectomy. However, super minimally invasive pulp (SMIP) therapy has recently been reported as a novel treatment approach for pulpitis of any degree. In this study, SMIP therapy was performed to preserve the vitality of teeth in two patients with severe pulpitis. Case one involved a 35
