The RN46A cell line was derived from embryonic day 13 rat medullary raphe cells by infection with a retrovirus encoding the temperature-sensitive mutant of SV40 large T antigen. We report two cases of reticular dysgenesis (RD) successfully treated by BMT utilizing T cell-depleted haploidentical marrow grafts. By tradition kidney transplants in Switzerland are allocated to recipients on a regional basis. Since multi-organ donation became routine, teams traveling all over Switzerland have been accused of harvesting not only the livers but at the same time kidneys, thus withholding such kidneys from regional recipients. Hemifacial microsomia is a developmental abnormality involving structures derived from the first and second branchial arches. Microvascular transplants are increasingly being used to improve facial contour in patients with this condition. Adenoviruses can produce severe disease, especially in patients who are immunosuppressed. We present a unique case in which adenovirus type 5 was demonstrated retrospectively, by using immunohistochemical methods, in the appendix of a liver transplant donor. The transfusion effect in first cadaver kidney transplants was re-examined at the UCLA Transplant Registry. One-year graft survival rates were 71% for non-transfused patients, which improved to 75% (P less than 0.05) with a single transfusion, 77% (P less than 0.01) with 2, and 78% (P less than 0.01) with 3 and 4 transfusions. One-year graft survival rates did not improve further with additional transfusions but remained at the same level. Seven patients underwent coronary revascularisation 12-145 months (mean: 63.4 months) after receiving cadaver renal transplants. Image quality and diagnostic significance of intravenous and intraarterial DSA following renal transplantation were assessed in 40 angiographic studies. In 27 of 40 DSA (67.5%) there were pathologic findings such as a renal artery stenosis, aneurysms or rejection within this selected group of patients. There were significant differences in image quality between intravenous and intraarterial DSA. The value of intravenous DSA is limited, particularly in patients with complex anastomosis, implanted polar arteries and kinking stenosis.
