Objective: We synthesized the effects of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) on anxiety symptoms in adults with cancer. Method: We searched 11 electronic databases from inception to February 2024. We included studies comparing MBIs with usual care, waitlist controls, or no intervention for the improvement of patients with anxiety in cancer (CA). We only reviewed studies written in English. We used a random-effects model to compute the effect size. Funnel plot, Q statistics, and I2 were used to test the heterogeneity across studies. We examined moderators to explore sources of heterogeneity.

BACKGROUND: Inflammation is causally implicated in the development and progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, but clinical trials of anti-inflammatory therapies have yielded inconsistent effects on cardiovascular outcomes.
METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the cardiovascular efficacy and safety of a broad range of anti-inflammatory agents. Medline, Embase and Cochrane databases were searched from inception to 08 October 2024 for randomised controlled trials evaluating the effect of anti-inflammatory therapies on a primary cardiovascular ou

ObjectivesThe physiotherapy literature lacks high-quality, registered systematic reviews (SRs) and 'trustworthy' randomized controlled trials (RCTs). It is unknown whether considering quality and 'trustworthiness' impact publication bias, heterogeneity, and the certainty of clinical recommendations observed in the literature.MethodsWe performed a methodological review of SRs investigating physiotherapy treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions indexed by MEDLINE, between 1 January 2018, and 25 October 2023. Blinded reviewers examined the prospective intent and quality of SRs and the 'trustw

BACKGROUND: Guidelines recommend against systematic lung recruitment strategies in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). sRAGE, an alveolar epithelial injury plasmatic biomarker, and inflammatory phenotypes may guide personalized approaches.
RESEARCH QUESTION: Does baseline sRAGE or inflammatory phenotype identify heterogeneity in the treatment effect of lung recruitment on mortality in ARDS?
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: This analysis included 259 patients with plasma sRAGE measurements from the original LIVE trial that compared lung recruitment with low-PEEP strategies in patients with f

A random effects meta-analysis combines the results of several independent studies to summarise the evidence about a particular measure of interest, such as a treatment effect. The approach allows for unexplained between-study heterogeneity in the true treatment effect by incorporating random study effects about the overall mean. The variance of the mean effect estimate is conventionally calculated by assuming that the between study variance is known; however, it has been demonstrated that this approach may be inappropriate, especially when there are few studies. Alternative methods that aim t

AIMS: Higher mortality rates after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) have been reported in women than in men. We examined whether adherence to secondary prevention medications could explain these sex differences.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We used data from 9857 participants (18% women) who underwent CABG between 1998 and 2021. Medication adherence for statins, beta-blockers, and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitors was assessed using nationwide drug purchase registers. Multivariable-adjusted Cox regression models with a sex interaction term were used to analyze the associati

BACKGROUND: Despite evidence of the long-term implications of unrelieved pain during infancy, it is evident that infant pain is still under-managed and unmanaged. Inadequately managed pain in infancy, a period of exponential development, can have implications across the lifespan. Therefore, a comprehensive and systematic review of pain management strategies is integral to appropriate infant pain management. This is an update of a previously published review update in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (2015, Issue 12) of the same title.

Managing postprandial glucose in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) requires understanding how carbohydrate intake affects glucose through both direct pathways and insulin-mediated compensation.1,2 Standard analyses often treat insulin as a confounder rather than a mediator, obscuring the distinct roles of these two causal channels and hiding clinically important heterogeneity in how different patients respond to carbohydrate intake. Using meal-centered continuous glucose monitoring windows from twelve adults in the OhioT1DM 2018 and 2020 cohorts,3,4 we apply the causal mediation framework of Ima

BACKGROUND: Despite improving abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) outcomes in the United States, significant disparities exist. Smaller studies found that women experienced worse outcomes after endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR), yet few larger analyses have confirmed this. This study aimed to characterize sex-related differences in outcomes among patients who underwent infrarenal EVAR.
METHODS: Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries ⩾ 66 years old who underwent infrarenal EVAR for intact AAA between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2019 were included in this retrospective cohort study. T

AIMS: The aim of this study was to investigate which patient- and fracture-related factors predict functional outcome at two years in patients aged 60 years or older with a proximal humerus fracture, and to assess the possible evidence in favour of treatment effect heterogeneity in these patients.
METHODS: This was a secondary analysis of a prior randomized controlled trial. We included patients from a Nordic multicentre trial including two trial cohorts (two-part and multipart): 88 patients with a two-part fracture (nonoperative vs locking plate), and 160 patients with a multipart fracture (…

OBJECTIVE: To compare estimated treatment effects of physical therapy (PT) between patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and outcomes measured in other ways.
STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: We selected randomized trials of PT with both a PROM and a non-PROM included in Cochrane systematic reviews (CSRs). Two reviewers independently extracted data and risk-of-bias assessments. Our primary outcome was the ratio of odds ratios (RORs), used to quantify how effect varies between PROMs and non-PROMs; an ROR > 1 indicates larger effect when assessed by using PROMs. We used REML-methods to estimate ass

BACKGROUND: Pharmacogenomics-guided therapy is a promising approach for optimizing antihypertensive treatment response; however, robust real-world data from South Asian and particularly Pakistani populations remain scarce. Understanding genotype-drug response relationships in this underrepresented population is essential to inform context-specific precision prescribing strategies.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate associations between pharmacogenomics variants and antihypertensive therapy response using electronic health record (EHR) data from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) patients, and to assess the increme
