AIM: The objective of this study was to validate basal, post-gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (post-GnRHa) and first-voided urinary LH (ULH) as alternatives to an LHRH stimulation test in monitoring treatment efficacy in central precocious puberty (CPP).
METHODS: Seventeen girls with CPP were followed over 22.5±9.1 months during GnRHa (triptorelin) treatment. ULH and post-GnRHa LH levels were obtained every 4 months before and 24 h after GnRHa administration, respectively, along with clinical and bone age (BA) evaluation. Diagnosis of 11beta-hydroxylase deficiency was made in a boy at the age of 2 1/2 years on the basis of peripheral precocious puberty, growth acceleration (height standard deviation score +4.4) with advanced skeletal maturation (bone age 8.4 years) and elevated deoxycortisol levels. The authors present the course of puberty in three girls after surgery because of hormonally active ovarian tumours diagnosed and operated at the age of 3, 6 and 9 years, respectively. In the youngest patient with folliculoma ovari chemotherapy was also given, and girl No. 3 with luteinic capsule was treated for one year with decapeptyl because idiopathic precocious puberty was diagnosed. At present all three girls are in good physical condition with age-adequate development and puberty.

Fourteen patients with large uterine fibroids and urinary symptoms were treated with monthly injections of [D-Trp6]-luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone microcapsules. The average uterine size before treatment was 728 ml; it dropped to 323 ml (a drop of 55%) after treatment.
