Two hundred twenty-two postmortem eyes containing posterior chamber intraocular lenses (IOLs) were analyzed for optic decentration in relationship to lens style, implant duration, and loop fixation site. Eight eyes obtained at autopsy from four patient who had chronic open-angle glaucoma were compared to eyes with normal aging changes. Three cases were characterized by early and pronounced abnormalities in the uveal portion of the drainage angle. BACKGROUND: Bilateral diffuse uveal melanocytic proliferation (B-DUMP) is a paraneoplastic disorder that may be seen in patients with a known malignancy but more commonly is seen in those without any history of cancer. It leads to multiple uveal tumors with exudative retinal detachment along with thickening of the choroid and generally carries a poor prognosis. The numbers of antibody producing cells (PFC) and the percentages of Fc receptor cells (FcR) and complement receptor cells (CRL) in the ocular and lymphoid tissues of rabbits immunized intravitreally with ovalbumin were determined. The expected incidence of blindness among children under 5 years of age in Malawi is 34 cases per 100 000 children. Direct ocular infections were responsible for the blindness in 32% of the cases (bacterial infections 20% and measles 12%).
