Vibration Measurement at Outlet Nozzle for Optimizing Steel Grit Blasting.

This paper deals with enhanced control of blasting via processing of vibration signals. In the blasting process, a mixture of abrasive and air under pressure is fed to the workpiece. However, the pressure set by the operator in the compressor is not always the same as the pressure in the end nozzle; it can decrease due to the passage of the mixture through a longer supply hose. Our research was focused on classifying vibration signals measured in the outlet nozzle according to the mixture pressure. The developed algorithm is based on a smooth spectrum of vibrations obtained by the linear predi…

Auricular Electrophysiology Demonstrates Enhanced Stability Under Vehicle Vibration and Acceleration.

INTRODUCTION: Real-time cortical and cardiac electrophysiology provides direct insight into brain and heart function, revealing early signs of neurological or circulatory instability, supporting medics with rapid triage, continuous monitoring, and intervention during transport, evacuation, or battlefield operations. However, their deployment remains limited by motion and vibration artifacts that degrade signal integrity in dynamic field settings. This study examines the feasibility of auricular (in-ear) electrode configurations for improved signal robustness compared with scalp and wrist sites…

Hand-arm vibration exposure and outcomes after cubital tunnel surgery.

BACKGROUND: Cubital tunnel syndrome is the second most common upper limb compressive neuropathy after carpal tunnel syndrome. Occupational hand-arm vibration exposure (HAV) has been linked to peripheral nerve compression, though a causal relationship remains unproven. Prior studies have shown that vibration exposure negatively affects outcomes following carpal tunnel surgery, but its impact on cubital tunnel surgery outcomes remains unclear. AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of previous HAV exposure on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) following cubital tunnel release. Sec…

Vibration Emissions Reduce Boar Sperm Quality via Disrupting Its Metabolism.

Artificial insemination (AI) with liquid-preserved semen has recently become common in pig breeding. The semen doses are produced in a centralized manner at the boar stud and then subsequently distributed and transported to sow farms. However, vibration emissions during transportation by logistic vehicles may adversely affect the quality of boar sperm. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the impact of vibration-induced emissions on sperm quality and function under simulated transportation conditions. Each time, ejaculates from all 15 boars were collected and then pooled together to minimize…

Vibration-Dependent Dual-Phosphorescent Cu4 Nanocluster with Remarkable Piezochromic Behavior.

The dual emission (DE) characteristics of atomically precise copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) are of significant theoretical and practical inter … bonds in Cu4. It is proposed that these strengthened hydrogen bond interactions limit the ligands' vibration, resulting in the vanishing of the higher-energy peak. In situ high-pressure Raman and vibrationally resolved emission spectra demonstrated that the benzene ring C=C stretching vibration is the structural source of the DE in Cu4.

Development of a suitable vibration pad for renal MR elastography.

The aim of this study was to develop a vibration pad suitable for renal MR elastography (MRE). Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition affecting >800 million people worldwide. Renal fibrosis is a common pathological feature of CKD that causes fibrotic regions to be much stiffer than those in normal renal tissues. Therefore, MRE can be used to diagnose CKD because it can image organ stiffness. In MRE, the shear modulus is obtained from the wavelength of the shear waves. Therefore, it is highly important to propagate shear waves with sufficient vibration strength in the tissue. B…

Leveraging Tendon Vibration to Enhance Pseudo-Haptic Perceptions in VR.

Pseudo-haptic techniques are used to modify haptic perception by appropriately changing visual feedback to body movements. Based on the knowledge that tendon vibration can affect our somatosensory perception, this article proposes a method for leveraging tendon vibration to enhance pseudo-haptics during free arm motion. Three experiments were performed to examine the impact of tendon vibration on the range and resolution of pseudo-haptics. The first experiment investigated the effect of tendon vibration on the detection threshold of the discrepancy between visual and physical motion. The resul…

Case report: Hand-arm vibration syndrome in a dental technician.

Occupational exposure to vibration using hand-held tools may cause hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) among workers. We report the case of a 39-year-old lady with a 5-year work exposure to repetitive wrist movements and vibration from hand tools in the dental fabrication laboratory, working as a dental technician. She presented with a 3-year history of chronic pain over the wrists and positive symptoms of numbness and tingling in the hands, pain and discomfort of the fingers during cold exposure, and poor grip strength. Symptoms over the right hand were worse than the left. She is right-hand d…

Emergence of a brainstem somatosensory tonotopic map for substrate vibration.

Perceiving substrate-borne vibrations is a fundamental component of tactile perception. How location (somatotopy) and frequency tuning (tonotopy) of vibrations are integratively processed is poorly understood. Here we addressed this question using in vivo electrophysiology and two-photon calcium imaging along the dorsal column-medial lemniscal pathway. We found that both frequency and location are organized into structured maps in the dorsal column nuclei (DCN). Both maps are intimately related at the fine spatial scale, with parallel map gradients that are consistent across the depth of the D…

Recognizing emotions induced by wearable haptic vibration using noninvasive electroencephalogram.

The integration of haptic technology into affective computing has led to a new field known as affective haptics. Nonetheless, the mechanism underlying the interaction between haptics and emotions remains unclear. In this paper, we proposed a novel haptic pattern with adaptive vibration intensity and rhythm according to the volume, and applied it into the emotional experiment paradigm. To verify its superiority, the proposed haptic pattern was compared with an existing haptic pattern by combining them with conventional visual-auditory stimuli to induce emotions (joy, sadness, fear, and neutral)…

Subthreshold white noise vibration alters trembling sway in older adults.

BACKGROUND: Somatosensory deficit is a significant contributor to falls in older adults. Stochastic resonance has shown promise in recent st … standing trial. Their sensation threshold was then captured using a custom vibratory mat and 4-2-1 vibration perception threshold test. Finally, participants completed another 90-s quiet standing trial while the vibratory mat vibrated at 90% of their measured threshold (if experimental) or with the mat off (if placebo). While they completed these trials, a …

Optical Fiber Vibration Signal Identification Method Based on Improved YOLOv4.

In the traditional peripheral-security-early-warning system, the endpoint detection and pattern recognition of the signals generated by the distributed optical fiber vibration sensors is completed step-by-step and in an orderly manner. The method by which these two processes may be placed end-to-end in a network model and processed simultaneously to improve work efficiency has increasingly become the focus of research. In this paper, the target detection algorithm combines the endpoint-detection and pattern-recognition processes of the vibration signal, which can not only quickly locate the st…

Mitigating motion sickness in automated vehicles with vibration cue system.

Motion sickness is very common in road transport. To guarantee ride comfort and user experience, there is an urgent need for effective solutions to motion sickness mitigation in semi- and fully-automated vehicles. Considering both effectiveness and user-friendliness, a vibration cue system is proposed to inform passengers of the upcoming vehicle movement through tactile stimulation. By integrating the motion planning results from automated driving algorithms, the vibration cueing timing and patterns are optimised with the theory of motion anticipation. Using a cushion-based prototype of a vibr…

Assessing mechanical vibration-altered wall shear stress in digital arteries.

The aim of this study is to implement and validate a method for assessing acute vibration-altered Wall Shear Stress (WSS) in the proper volar digital artery of the non-exposed left forefinger when subjecting the right hand to mechanical vibration. These changes of WSS may be involved in Vibration White Finger. Hence, an experimental device was set-up to link a vibration shaker and an ultra-high frequency ultrasound scanner. The Womersley-based WSS was computed by picking up the maximum velocity from pulse Wave Doppler measurements and extracting the artery diameter from B-mode images through a…

Vocal fold contact patterns based on normal modes of vibration.

The fluid-structure interaction and energy transfer from respiratory airflow to self-sustained vocal fold oscillation continues to be a topic of interest in vocal fold research. Vocal fold vibration is driven by pressures on the vocal fold surface, which are determined by the shape of the glottis and the contact between vocal folds. Characterization of three-dimensional glottal shapes and contact patterns can lead to increased understanding of normal and abnormal physiology of the voice, as well as to development of improved vocal fold models, but a large inventory of shapes has not been direc…

Vibration-Induced Nystagmus: A Biomarker for Vestibular Deficits - A Synopsis.

A review of more than 20 years of experience with vibratory stimulation in vestibular diseases is given. Vibrations in a frequency frame of 30-60 Hz are applied on the mastoid during 20 s. Eye movements are recorded by video-oculography to detect a vibration-induced nystagmus (VIN). A VIN occurs in cases of a side difference between the peripheral vestibular receptors beating to the side of better excitability. In patients with central lesions, a VIN does not appear generally, only exceptionally if the lesion is located laterally in the brain stem. In healthy subjects, a VIN does not occur. Th…
