OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the treatment efficacy of a topical spray containing hydrocortisone aceponate (HCA) on dogs with flea-allergy dermatitis (FAD).

This paper describes the development of a video-based evaluation tool for use in Rett syndrome (RTT). Components include a parent-report checklist, and video filming and coding protocols that contain items on eating, drinking, communication, hand function and movements, personal care and mobility. Dystonia is a movement disorder characterized by involuntary, sustained or repetitive, patterned muscle contractions or spasms, frequently causing squeezing and twisting movements or abnormal postures. Dystonic posturing could be one of the accompanying features of epilepsy. We report an elderly lady with intractable focal seizure who presented with more than a year of persistent hand spasms. The clinical importance of differentiating epilepsy from movement disorders is discussed.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Nonepileptic seizures are seizure-like symptoms that occur in the absence of epileptogenic brain activity. They can cause severe compromise of daily function and impede development in children, and are frequently misdiagnosed, leading to inadequate or potentially harmful medical treatment. This review will characterize nonepileptic seizures, identify associated factors, propose to a reconceptualization of the phenomenon as stress-related seizures, and suggest guidelines for valid diagnosis and intervention.

This study examined the association between wives' pursuit and husbands' withdrawal during marital conflict discussions, and the affects associated with these behaviors. Ten distressed and 10 nondistressed couples completed a videotaped interaction in which the wives requested changes in husbands' behaviors. PURPOSE: We recorded focal ictal DC shifts from scalp electrodes in a 9-year-old boy with intractable, clinically generalized tonic seizures. The patient had a high intensity signal abnormality of the left temporal cortex with thickening of the gyri on T2-weighted MRI.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the association between demonstrated aspiration and pneumonia in stroke patients.
METHODS: Chart review of 441 consecutive stroke patients admitted to a stroke rehabilitation unit within 4 months of their stroke over an 8-year period. Videofluoroscopic modified barium swallow (VMBS) was performed on all patients suspected of aspirating. In all patients, the presence or absence of pneumonia was noted.

To investigate the clinical features of transient cerebral hypoxia, syncope was induced in 56 of 59 healthy volunteers through a sequence of hyperventilation, orthostasis, and Valsalva maneuver. All events were monitored on video by two cameras. Complete syncope with falling and loss of consciousness was observed in 42 subjects, lasting 12.1 +/- 4.4 seconds.
