The impact of wearable continuous vital sign monitoring on deterioration detection and clinical outcomes in hospitalised patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Timely recognition of the deteriorating inpatient remains challenging. Wearable monitoring systems (WMS) may augment current monitoring practices. However, there are many barriers to implementation in the hospital environment, and evidence describing the clinical impact of WMS on deterioration detection and patient outcome remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of vital-sign monitoring on detection of deterioration and related clinical outcomes in hospitalised patients using WMS, in comparison with standard care. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in August 2020

Interpretable Machine Learning for In-Hospital Mortality Prediction in ICU Patients Using First-24-Hour Routine Vital Signs: A SHAP-Based MIMIC-IV Study.

Background: Identification of ICU patients at increased risk of death may support clinical assessment and prioritization of care. However, many mortality prediction approaches incorporate extensive laboratory information, conventional severity scores, or computationally complex models that may limit straightforward interpretation at the bedside. This study investigated whether routinely recorded physiological measurements collected during the first 24 h of ICU care could support an interpretable machine learning approach to subsequent in-hospital mortality prediction. Methods: We performed a r

A Computational Approach to Increasing the Antenna System's Sensitivity in a Doppler Radar Designed to Detect Human Vital Signs in the UHF-SHF Frequency Ranges.

In the context of Doppler radar, studies have examined the changes in the phase shift of the S21 transmission coefficient related to minute movements of the human chest as a response to breathing or heartbeat. Detecting human vital signs remains a challenge, especially when obstacles interfere with the attempt to detect the presence of life. The sensitivity of a measurement system's perception of vital signs is highly dependent on the monitoring systems and antennas that are used. The current work proposes a computational approach that aims to extract an empirical law of the dependence of the …

From perception to response: translational progress implementation challenges of wearable non-invasive continuous vital sign monitoring in early warning for inpatients.

BACKGROUND: Intermittent ward observations may miss short-lived physiological deterioration, and failures in observation, documentation, scoring, or escalation can widen this surveillance gap. Wearable, non-invasive continuous vital-sign monitoring may narrow the gap, but its translational value depends on whether continuous data are converted into timely and sustainable clinical response. OBJECTIVE: To map evidence on wearable continuous or near-continuous vital-sign monitoring for inpatient deterioration detection, alerting, clinical response, workflow integration, and implementation.
