OBJECTIVE: To explore the potential decrease of serum erythropoietin (EPO) level in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) complicated with anemia.
METHODS: The serum EPO levels were detected in the patients with MS complicated with anemia (MS group, n=31), patients with iron deficiency anemia (IDA group, n=33), and healthy subjects (normal control group, n=80) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Blood routine test, reticulocyte count, hemoglobin, and indexes of liver and kidney function were also detected.

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the clinical and computed tomographic(CT) findings of tuberous sclerosis(TS) associated with hepatic and renal angiomyolipomas.
METHOD: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical and CT findings of 7 TS patients with hepatic and renal angiomyolipomas.

Hypercoagulability state is the result of the interplay of genetic predisposition and risk factors. Many key enzymes and reactions in coagulation and anti-coagulation system are involved. Hereditary antithrombin deficiency is one of the major risk factors of venous thromboembolic disease (VTE), whereas hyperhomocysteinemia may also play a role. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility and clinical value of intraoperative ultrasonography (IOUS) in thoracic spinal decompression surgery.
METHODS: Ten patients with confirmed thoracic spinal stenosis underwent thoracic spinal decompression in our center from August 2009 to December 2010. Syphilis, a chronic bacterial infection caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum, remains a public health concern worldwide. Syphilis control is largely dependent upon early identification and prompt treatment. The diagnosis of syphilis is mainly based on laboratory tests, especially serology and dark-field microscopy. In recent years, recombinant Treponema pallidum antigen-based rapid tests, polymerase chain reaction, and immunoglobulin M antibody detection have also shown certain sensitivities and specificities for syphilitic patients at different stages.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical safety and effectiveness of percutaneous embolization in treating the late failed renal allograft in patients with graft intolerance syndrome (GIS).
METHODS: Transcatheter embolization of renal graft artery was performed in 18 patients with late graft dysfunction and GIS. The subsequent complications, postoperative symptom remission rate, and prognosis were assessed.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of ondansetron and granisetron in the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in high-risk patients.
METHODS: Totally 200 patients with three key risk factors for PONV (female, non-smoking and postoperative opioid use) were equally randomized into ondansetron group and granisetron group.
