BACKGROUND: The safety, efficacy, and prognostic implications of resection of adrenocortical carcinoma with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus are poorly described.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed during a 30-year period on patients who underwent resection of locally advanced, nonmetastatic adrenocortical carcinoma. We compared patients with and without inferior vena cava tumor thrombus, examining perioperative characteristics, completeness of resection, mortality, and survival.

Prompted by repeated pathology reports of fibromas at the origin of the plantar fascia after fasciectomy for chronic plantar heel pain, this study examined the incidence of proximal plantar fibroma. A retrospective study of 100 pathology specimens from 97 patients with the preoperative diagnosis of recalcitrant plantar fasciitis was performed. The thyroid gland is commonly included in the radiation field during treatment of nonthyroidal neoplastic disease of the head and neck. As a result, thyroid abnormalities sometimes occur following external irradiation. We report an unusual case of radiotherapy-associated Graves ophthalmopathy 5 months after adjuvant external irradiation of the head and neck in a euthyroid patient who had undergone wide local excision of squamous cell carcinoma from the floor of the mouth.
