Multi-omics integration deciphers arsenic-induced multi-organ toxicity and the novel ferroptosis axis.

Chronic arsenic exposure threatens over 200 million people worldwide and induces multi-organ injury, yet the panoramic molecular reprogramming across organs remains incompletely understood, and traditional single-omics approaches fail to capture cross-level and cross-organ regulatory associations. This review systematically integrates evidence from global epidemiology to single-cell spatial omics, tracing the evolution of multi-omics technologies-from single-platform profiling to data fusion strategies such as coupled matrix factorization (CMF) and the DIABLO framework, two complementary multi

Genetics, Not Weather, Informs Migration Behaviors in a Long-Distance Migrant Songbird.

Migration is the riskiest portion of the annual breeding cycle, with long-distance migratory birds enduring long periods of varied landscapes, dangerous weather, and geographical barriers such as long stretches of open water. Therefore, birds utilize a combination of both innate (i.e., genetic) and environmental cues to maximize their chances of survival during migration. Studies have suggested that short-distance migrants are more likely to adjust migration timing to match non-endogenous cues like local weather conditions, while long-distance migrants rely heavily on genetically-ingrained beh

Theoretical Investigations on the Molecular Magnetic Behavior of Actinide Molecules [AnPc2]0/- (An = U, Cf): Prediction of the High Magnetic Blocking Barrier and Magnetic Blocking Temperature in [CfPc2].

Searching for single-molecule magnets (SMM) with large effective blocking barriers, long relaxation times, and high magnetic blocking temperatures is vitally important not only for the fundamental research of magnetism at the molecular level but also for the realization of new-generation magnetic memory unit. Actinides (An) atoms possess extremely strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) due to their 5f orbitals, and their ground multiplets are largely split into several sublevels because of the strong interplay between the SOC of An atoms and the crystal field (CF) formed by ligand atoms. Compared to

Computational Investigation of the Chemical Bond between An(III) Ions and Soft-Donor Ligands.

The chemical bonding of actinide ions with arene and borohydride ligands is explored via quantum chemical methods to understand how the transuranium elements interact with soft-donor ligands. Specifically, the [An(C6Me6)(BH4)3] complexes (An = U, Np, and Pu) and their reduced congeners are studied. Density functional theory (DFT) shows that the metal-ligand interactions in the neutral complexes are governed by electrostatic interactions. Both DFT and complete active space (CASSCF) results show that as one moves from U to Pu, the 5f-orbitals are stabilized leading to a poorer energy match with

A phenomenologically grounded specification of varieties of adolescent depression.

Researchers are increasingly acknowledging that psychopathological conditions usually grouped together under the generic label "depression" are highly diverse. However, no differential therapeutic approach currently exists that is sensitive to the varieties of depression afflicting young people. In fact, the discussion is missing something much more fundamental: a specification of the types of adolescent depression. Recent research that has aimed to classify different kinds of depression has mainly studied adult populations and predominantly used technically complicated measurements of biologi

Organometallic μ-Nitridodiiron Complexes in Oxidation States Ranging from (III/III) to (IV/IV).

Iron complexes with nitrido ligands are of interest as molecular analogues of key intermediates during N2-to-NH3 conversion in industrial or enzymatic processes. Dinuclear iron complexes with a bridging nitrido unit are mostly known in relatively high oxidation states (III/IV or IV/IV), originating from the decomposition of azidoiron precursors via high-valent Fe≡N intermediates. The use of a tetra-NHC macrocyclic scaffold ligand (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) has now allowed for the isolation of a series of organometallic μ-nitridodiiron complexes ranging from the mid-valent FeIII-N-FeIII (1)

Are All Unloader Braces Created Equal? Recommendations for Evidence-Based Implementation of Unloader Braces for Patients with Unicompartmental Knee OA.

Unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis (UKOA) is a complex issue that is estimated to affect roughly 28% of patients with knee OA, and can result in severe cartilage degeneration, meniscus deficiency, and concomitant varus or valgus malalignment. This malalignment results in abnormally high joint reaction forces in the affected compartment, which can elicit pain, cause dysfunction, and exacerbate joint degradation. For more than two decades, the use of knee unloader braces has been advocated as a cost-effective option for symptomatic management of UKOA.During bipedal ambulation with a normal low

Implicit learning of artificial grammatical structures after inferior frontal cortex lesions.

OBJECTIVE: Previous research associated the left inferior frontal cortex with implicit structure learning. The present study tested patients with lesions encompassing the left inferior frontal gyrus (LIFG; including Brodmann areas 44 and 45) to further investigate this cognitive function, notably by using non-verbal material, implicit investigation methods, and by enhancing potential remaining function via dynamic attending. Patients and healthy matched controls were exposed to an artificial pitch grammar in an implicit learning paradigm to circumvent the potential influence of impaired langua

Abnormal dynamics of activation of object use information in apraxia: evidence from eyetracking.

Action representations associated with object use may be incidentally activated during visual object processing, and the time course of such activations may be influenced by lexical-semantic context (e.g., Lee, Middleton, Mirman, Kalénine, & Buxbaum (2012). Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 39(1), 257-270). In this study we used the "visual world" eye-tracking paradigm to examine whether a deficit in producing skilled object-use actions (apraxia) is associated with abnormalities in incidental activation of action information, and assessed the neuroanatomical

Anion dependent redox changes in iron bis-terdentate nitroxide {NNO} chelates.

The reaction of [Fe(II)(BF(4))(2)]·6H(2)O with the nitroxide radical, 4,4-dimethyl-2,2-di(2-pyridyl) oxazolidine-N-oxide (L(•)), produces the mononuclear transition metal complex [Fe(II)(L(•))(2)](BF(4))(2) (1) which has been investigated using temperature dependent susceptibility, Mössbauer spectroscopy, electrochemistry, density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and X-ray structure analysis. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and Mössbauer measurements reveal an octahedral low spin Fe(2+) environment where the pyridyl donors from L(•) coordinate equatorially while the oxygen conta

Fluorescence spectroscopy: a powerful technique for the noninvasive characterization of artwork.

After electronic excitation by ultraviolet or visible radiation, atoms and molecules can undergo thermal or radiative deactivation processes before relaxing to the ground state. They can emit photons with longer wavelengths than the incoming exciting radiation, that is, they can fluoresce in the UV-vis-near-infrared (NIR) range. The study of fluorescence relaxation processes is one of the experimental bases on which modern theories of atomic and molecular structure are founded. Over the past few decades, technological improvements in both optics and electronics have greatly expanded fluorimetr

Experiential teaching centered on science popularisation videos: a randomised controlled trial on the impact on learning outcomes and core competencies of dental preventive medicine students.

BACKGROUND: Medical students, as key communicators of health information in the future, require high-quality education and training. Traditional teaching models, which primarily focus on theoretical instruction, have limitations in cultivating students' mastery of knowledge and their health education competencies. Experiential teaching, characterized by active learning and practical participation, offers new perspectives for medical education reform. However, existing studies have largely focused on the effectiveness of video viewing as a pedagogical medium, and there remains a lack of high-qu
