Wrist thermotopography in children with injured median and ulnar nerves, carried out with the help of a thermograph and liquid crystals, makes it possible to diagnose a type of the injury and to elaborate indicators for surgical treatment. The use of the dibasol test allows a better identification of zones with different degrees of sensitivity impairment. The application of liquid crystals offers an opportunity for detecting neglected injuries of finger nerves in children.

The authors observed 16 patients suffering from nodular periarteritis with the polyneuritis syndrome. The development and clinical characteristics of polyneuritis due to nodular periarteritis were studied, its course and outcome were also recorded. Some data helpful for recognizing the etiology of polyneuritis are presented. It is demonstrated that when multiple modality treatment (with corticosteroids as a component) is initiated at the early stages of disease, some patients exhibit prolonged remission of nodular periarteritis, including notable regression of polyneuritis manifestations.

The metabolism of biogenic amines was examined in 62 patients with various acute viral neuroinfections. The control group consisted of 57 persons. Depending on the process character and disease period variations of the levels of serotonin, 5-hydroxyindolylacetic acid, coeruloplasmin and histamine were discovered. A comparison of the results obtained with the clinical course of the diseases revealed a certain correlation, especially in patients with acute meningoencephalitis.

CSF was studied in 110 patients with herpes zoster. The whole complex of symptoms helped to diagnose serous meningitis in 62% of cases and so-called "asymptomatic meningitis" in 18% of cases. CSF cells were characterized by lymphocyte transformation and the presence of antigen to Varicella zoster virus determined by the fluorescent antibody method. Specific antibodies titer appeared to be at zero or minimal level. The disease pathogenesis is discussed.

Using the method of concurrent radioisotope in-vitro analysis the authors examined the serum levels of thyroid hormones in 70 patients with temporal epilepsy. The use of the drug grandaxin (made in Hungary) has demonstrated its high activity in the treatment of psychopathological disturbances of neurotic origin. Its administration is preferable when vegetative and hyposthenic disturbances are prevalent in the neurosis clinical picture. At the same time it alleviates the intensity of phobic and senestho-hypochondriacal experiences, however, its administration as the sole means for eliminating these disturbances seems undesirable.
