OBJECTIVE: To analyze the mutation of TSC gene in two sporadic patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).
METHODS: All the coding exons of TSC1 and TSC2 genes of these two patients, unaffected member in the two families, and 100 unrelated population-matched controls were amplified by polymerase chain reaction. The products were analyzed by direct sequencing.

The etiology and pathology of Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) remain unclear. The membrane in some membranous BCS may be derived from the absorption and organization of the thrombus of inferior vena cava (IVC). The long-term efficacies of currently available graft shunt operations are unsatisfactory. Interventional therapy or radical resection of lesion should be recommended. The IVC stenosis actually results from the compression of hepatomegaly and should not be classified as BCS. The membranous BCS is an acquired disease.

OBJECTIVE: To elucidate the pathogenic genes in a pedigree with autosomal dominant ichthyosis vulgaris (IV).
METHODS: Linkage analysis was performed by using STR markers in chromosome 1, and mutation detection was used to screen for FLG gene mutation.
RESULTS: A maximum two-point Lod score of 3.46 (theta=0) was obtained at D1S2696. Haplotype analysis placed the critical region in a 15-CM interval defined by D1S2726 and D1S305, but no mutation of FLG was found in our IV patients.

METHODS: The clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of 24 patients with RP were retrospectively analyzed. Twenty-four RP patients were examined for autoimmune antibody. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical values of the curved planar reformation (CPR) in multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) in determining the malignant invasion of pancreatic carcinoma into the intrapancreatic and peripancreatic ductal structures.
METHODS: Thirty-seven patients having documented pancreatic carcinoma with tumor involvement of intrapancreatic or peripancreatic ductal structures were enrolled. All patients received dual-phase MSCT scan of upper abdomen. Images generated by CPR technique were used for evaluating the appearances of intrapancreatic and peripancreatic ductal structures.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the principles of diagnosis and treatment of chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis (CLT) coexistent with thyroid malignancy.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of long-pulsed Alexandrite laser for hair removal.
METHODS: Hair removal was performed in 1702 hirsute patients with long-pulsed Alexandrite laser. Among them 1603 patients received two or more operations.
RESULTS: In patients who received 2, 3, 4, 5, and > or =6 operations, the effectiveness rates were 9.79%, 18.33%, 29.10%, 37.64%, and 82.68%, respectively. The number of operation correlated with the effectiveness, and > or =6 operations resulted in superior outcomes. Pigmentation occurred in 0.94% of the patients (16/1702).

OBJECTIVE: To explore the detection rate of myocardial bridge (MB) in coronary angiography and its clinical significance.
METHOD: The clinical data of 2 165 cases who had received selective coronary angiography were studied retrospectively.
RESULTS: MB was detected in 66 patients (3. 0% ) , among whom 62 were found in left anterior descending artery. Among the 58 cases with isolated myocardial bridge, 24 had no remarkable symptoms, whereas 34 showed clinical symptoms such as angina. The arterial stenosis beneath MB was significantly correlated with clinical symptoms (P < 0. 05 ).
