Smoking Discrimination Moderates the Relationship between Smoking Stigma and Cigarettes Per Day among Sexual and Gender Minority Individuals.

Background: Sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals report rates of tobacco use that range from 19% to 40% compared to roughly 20% of the general population. Higher rates of tobacco use, compounded by stress from discrimination, contribute to lower cessation rates and worse smoking-related outcomes for SGM individuals. Having multiple stigmatized identities, such as identifying as SGM and being a person who uses cigarettes, may further increase smoking, and decrease the likelihood of cessation. Smoking-related stigma is one relatively unexplored factor that may be related to smoking frequ

Perceived health-related quality of life in people living with HIV co-infected with SARS-CoV-2 in France.

PURPOSE: We aimed to assess health-related quality of life (HRQL) and its correlates among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) co-infected with SARS-CoV-2 in France. METHODS: This cross-sectional was study conducted among PLWHA co-infected with SARS-CoV-2. HRQL was measured using the four dimensions of the PROQOL-HIV scale. Factors associated with each dimension were identified using linear regression. RESULTS: mean (SD) scores for HRQL dimensions: 76.7 (± 21.1) for Physical Health and Symptoms (PHS), 79.2 (± 23.6) for Social Relationships (SR), 67.3 (± 27.4) for Mental and Cognitive (MC), a

Sexual Orientation-Specific Policies Are Associated With Prenatal Care Use in the First Trimester Among Sexual Minority Women: Results From a Prospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Previous research has shown sexual minority women (SMW) are more likely to report multiple maternal and infant health outcomes compared to heterosexual women and that these outcomes are moderated by the policy environment. Little is known, however, about prenatal care use disparities or the social determinants of prenatal care use for SMW. PURPOSE: To examine the relationship between sexual orientation-specific policies that confer legal protections (e.g., hate crime protections, housing discrimination, same-sex marriage) and prenatal care use among women using a prospective, popu

Sexual Identity Development and Social Ecological Facilitators and Barriers of PrEP Uptake and Adherence Among Latinx Men Who Have Sex with Men.

Latinx gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (LMSM) report lower pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use than their white, non-Latinx counterparts. We hypothesize that this disparity is partially attributable to social ecological factors that can be addressed via prevention interventions. In this retrospective study, we first examined data from 253 LMSM to determine whether theorized associations existed between acquisition of a PrEP prescription (uptake) in relation to several social ecological factors based on a conceptual framework of determinants of access to and uptake of PrEP fo

Exploring young people's attitudes to HIV prevention medication (PrEP) in England: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Young people aged 18-24 years old are a key demographic target for eliminating HIV transmission globally. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a prevention medication, reduces HIV transmission. Despite good uptake by gay and bisexual men who have sex with men, hesitancy to use PrEP has been observed in other groups, such as young people and people from ethnic minority backgrounds. The aim of this study was to explore young people's perceptions and attitudes to using PrEP. DESIGN: A qualitative transcendental phenomenological design was used. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: A convenience

Factors associated with bacterial sexually transmitted infections among people of South Asian ethnicity in England.

OBJECTIVES: Despite being the largest ethnic minority group in England, South Asians have historically had low levels of utilisation of sexual health services (SHS) and sexually transmitted infection (STI) diagnoses, although recent data suggests this may be changing. This study aimed to investigate factors associated with a bacterial STI diagnosis among South Asians attending SHS in England. METHODS: Using data from the GUMCAD STI Surveillance system, a descriptive analysis of South Asians attending SHS in England in 2019 was carried out. Factors associated with a bacterial STI diagnosis wer

Co-occurring suicidal ideation and alcohol-related problems: An intersectional analysis of Native American and White adults with minoritized sexual identities.

BACKGROUND: Disparities in suicidal ideation (SI) and alcohol use disorder (AUD) are evident in both Native American and minoritized sexual identity groups, relative to non-Hispanic White and heterosexual groups. However, Native Americans report lower drinking and binge drinking rates than White adults. Persons with intersecting identities, specifically Native Americans with minoritized sexual identities, may be at greater risk for SI and drinking, binge drinking, and AUD than White and Native American heterosexual adults. Online Traffic Analysis of Direct-to-Consumer Websites for Hair Loss Treatment and Characterization of Finasteride Patients on a Platform in Germany: A Potential Paradigm Shift in the Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia.

PURPOSE: The number of online prescription platforms (OPPs) offering telemedical diagnosis and treatment, including finasteride, for androgenetic alopecia (AA) by using medical questionnaires (MQs) has increased. This type of care delivery differs completely from traditional forms. This study aimed to investigate a potential paradigm shift in AA treatment by measuring the extent of traffic generated by OPPs that exclusively treat AA and furthermore by characterizing sociodemographic features of men undergoing finasteride treatment from an OPP in Germany. Leveraging family-based assets for Black men who have sex with men in House Ball Communities: Protocol for a cluster randomized controlled trial.

Black men who have sex with men (MSM) continue to have the highest incidence of new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) diagnoses in the United States but are least likely to be engaged in care or to be virally suppressed. Many Black MSM face multiple stigmas, but some have found refuge in the House Ball Community (HBC)-a national network of Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender kinship commitments that provide care-giving, affirmation, and survival skills-building for its members. We propose to modify a skills-building and HIV prevention best-evidence, group-level intervention for HIV-

Clinical presentation of Monkeypox among people living with HIV in South Florida: a case series.

INTRODUCTION: Monkeypox, historically a zoonotic disease caused by monkeypox virus, is a new global health emergency. Since May 2022, dozens of non-endemic countries have seen new cases with rapid spread. Generally a self-limited disease, there are vulnerable populations, in which severe or deadly illness can occur. There is limited data on immunocompromised patients in this outbreak, particularly on people living with HIV, who are disproportionately affected. METHODS: We reported seven cases of monkeypox in people living with HIV in South Florida, USA. Relevant demographic, epidemiologic and
