We studied the effect of trochanteric osteotomy in 192 total hip replacements in 140 patients with congenital hip disease. There was bony union in 158 hips (82%), fibrous union in 29 (15%) and nonunion in five (3%). BACKGROUND: Pediatric patients sometimes require amputation as part of their life-saving burn care. Bone overgrowth is known to occur in these amputation patients at rates of 4% to 43% depending on the study.

In our study, we retrospectively evaluated 203 patients with medial or lateral femoral neck fractures who received 210 bipolar prosthesis (7 bilateral implantations) at our institution. 204 patients underwent cemented bipolar hemiarthroplasty. Labyrinthitis ossificans may be a hindrance to cochlear implantation by making electrode insertion difficult. We performed a histopathologic study of 24 temporal bones with labyrinthitis ossificans from multiple causes. The organ of Corti was graphically reconstructed and the degree of obstruction was estimated for each millimeter of the cochlea.
