Research on the epidemiology of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is limited in Korea. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and characteristics of MGUS in an elderly urban Korean population. Herpes gestationis (HG) is a rare pregnancy-associated disease. The aim of this study was to compare various immunohistochemical and immunobiochemical techniques with respect to their diagnostic sensitivity for HG. Antiserum to cerebroside was prepared in rabbits by injection of cerebroside together with bovine serum albumin in complete Freund's adjuvant. Brucellosis remains a significant zoonotic disease globally, causing considerable economic and public health consequences, particularly in high-risk areas of South Africa (SA) with extensive animal production, including the Limpopo and Free State provinces. This study used a combination of serological, microbiological, and molecular assays to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of Brucella in 580 slaughtered livestock (384 cattle and 196 sheep) in Limpopo and the Free State (192 cattle and 98 sheep in each province) and to compare the diagnostic findings obtained using these assays.

Rapidly growing populations of South American camelids (SAC), introduced to Europe as non-indigenous species, have increased contacts at the livestock and human interfaces. A digoxigenin-labeled probe was used for hybridization to various preparations of Babesia bigemina-infected erythrocyte extracts. BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Alveolar echinococcosis of the liver (AEL) is a zoonosis that is distributed in cold regions of the northern hemisphere. The disease is mostly found in adults and rarely in pediatric patients because it tends to be slow growing.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ten Japanese pediatric patients (under 15 years old) with AEL have been operated on in Hokkaido University Hospital from January 1936 to June 2008. We examined these children and revealed the characteristics of AEL.
