Trigonella foenum-graecum (fenugreek) is a legume widely used as a food supplement in humans and less frequently in ruminants. Toxicity has been described sporadically in ruminants grazing mature fenugreek plants or stubble; however, the pathological features are unclear. This report describes a natural outbreak of intoxication in cattle fed fenugreek straw and the experimental reproduction using 8 sheep and 8 goats. Affected cattle presented clinical signs approximately 1 month after consuming the straw and 100 of 400 cattle (25%) were affected, of which 60 of 100 (60%) died or were euthanize

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Although several case series have described nitrous-oxide-associated neurological disorders, a comprehensive assessment of exposure characteristics (e.g., time to onset, level of exposure) in substance abusers has not been performed. The aim of this study was to describe the onset patterns of recreational use of nitrous-oxide-induced neurological disorders.
METHODS: All cases of neurological disorders related to nitrous oxide recreational use reported to the Hauts-de-France addictovigilance center between January 2019 and August 2020 were selected. Only cases requiring

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Several autoantibodies against proteins located at the node of Ranvier has been identified in patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) in the last few years. Then a new concept, autoimmune nodo-paranodopathies was proposed. Cases of Caspr1 autoantibodies are the most rare. Here we describe an anti-Caspr1 nodopathy patient, summarized his clinical, physiological and pathological features.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 56-year-old male patient with proprioceptive loss, ataxia, coarse tremor and distal limb weakness without a

The motoric cognitive risk (MCR) syndrome is a pre-dementia condition, marked by the enhanced risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia, together with falls, disability, and abnormal movements. The research studies revealed the distinct neurological and non-neurological clinical gait irregularities during dementia and accelerated functional decline, such as postural and balance impairments, memory loss, cognitive failure, and metabolic dysfunctions. The disabling characteristics of MCR comprise altered afferent sensory and efferent motor responses, together with disrupted visual,

INTRODUCTION: Congenital dysplasia of the pelvis often occurs in isolation, however, it can also involve other pelvic components, and anomalies of the digestive system. Pelvic malformations have effects on the pelvic girdle and pelvic stability influencing the quality of gait. The condition can be treated with a total hip arthroplasty (THA). The concept of Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) has been described as a comprehensive rehabilitation approach with a focus on motor learning. This case report seeks to illustrate the clinical reasoning and feasibility of applying the PNF-con

BACKGROUND: Migraines involve moderate-to-severe neck and face pain that lasts four to 72 hours, and are followed by fatigue and stiffness. Migraines are treated using medications, massage therapy (MT), and non-pharmacological alternatives. Cervical spondylosis (CS) is characterized by degeneration of the intervertebral discs, neck pain, and involvement of soft tissues in the cervical area. CS is treated using medications and manual therapy, including MT.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of MT on cervical range of motion and daily function in a patient with migraines and CS.

Recent evidence suggests increased activity of the pre-frontal cortex (PFC) is associated with sensorimotor disturbances of standing balance. Here we manipulate sensorimotor inputs and concurrently load cognitive resources in order to investigate the functional role of PFC activity during standing balance, and how this changes with healthy ageing. Healthy younger (n = 24; mean age = 20.8 years) and older (n = 25; mean age = 70.6 years) adults maintained balance while sensorimotor inputs were manipulated by removing vision, reducing the base of support, and reducing proprioceptive feedback. The present study investigated the effects of aging on the distribution of common descending neural drives to main postural muscles acting on the ankle, knee, hip, and lower trunk. The presence, distribution, and strength of these drives were assessed using intermuscular coherence estimations at a low-frequency band (0-55 Hz). Ten healthy older adults (68.7 ± 3.5 years) with no recent history of falls and ten healthy younger adults (26.8 ± 2.7 years) performed bipedal stances with eyes either opened or closed. Electromyographic (EMG) signals of six postural muscles were recorded. Estimations o

INTRODUCTION: Supernumerary phantom limb (SPL) is an uncommon phantom sensation where the patient experiences the illusory presence of one or more limbs in addition to their existing limbs. SPL after a spinal cord injury (SCI) is rare with few documented cases. There is minimal treatment guidance available, with some reports of visual-tactile feedback therapy used to manage SPL.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 43-year-old male sustained a C4 ASIA Impairment Scale grade C SCI, developing the sensation of two SPL arms originating from his shoulders 6 days after injury. He developed a self-directed method

We report a hereditary leukodystrophy in Standard Schnauzer puppies. Clinical signs occurred shortly after birth or started at an age of under 4 weeks and included apathy, dysphoric vocalization, hypermetric ataxia, intension tremor, head tilt, circling, proprioceptive deficits, seizures and ventral strabismus consistent with a diffuse intracranial lesion. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a diffuse white matter disease without mass effect. Macroscopically, the cerebral white matter showed a gelatinous texture in the centrum semiovale. A mild hydrocephalus internus was noted. Histopathologic

Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) is a rare early-onset degenerative disease that affects both the central and peripheral nervous systems, and other extraneural tissues, mainly the heart and endocrine pancreas. This disorder progresses as a mixed sensory and cerebellar ataxia, primarily disturbing the proprioceptive pathways in the spinal cord, peripheral nerves and nuclei of the cerebellum. FRDA is an inherited disease with an autosomal recessive pattern caused by an insufficient amount of the nuclear-encoded mitochondrial protein frataxin, which is an essential and highly evolutionary conserved pro

Sensorimotor adaptation to wedge prisms can alter the balance of attention between left and right space in healthy adults, and improve symptoms of spatial neglect after stroke. Here we asked whether the orienting of spatial attention to visual stimuli is affected by a different form of sensorimotor adaptation that involves physical perturbations of arm movement, rather than distortion of visual feedback. Healthy participants performed a cued discrimination task before and after they made reaching movements to a central target. A velocity-dependent force field pushed the hand aside during each

Astrogliosis and microglial reactions are correlated with the formation of scar tissue and synapse loss. 4-hydroxy-tempo (TEMPOL) is a reactive oxygen species scavenger with proven neuroprotective efficacy in experimental models of traumatic injury and cerebral ischemia. TEMPOL has not, however, been applied following ventral root lesions, which are particularly correlated with the degeneration of spinal motoneurons following brachial plexus injuries. Thus, the present study investigated the effects of TEMPOL on motoneurons and adjacent glial reactions, with a particular focus on the preservat

INTRODUCTION: In Essential Tremor (ET), tremor characteristics and the impairment caused by tremor may vary from task to task. A variability of tremor frequency between postural and kinetic tasks has been proposed in ET, suggesting either multiple central oscillating networks, or peripheral or proprioceptive feedback-mechanisms. This electrophysiological study aimed to assess tremor frequencies and amplitudes in tasks involving postural and kinetic tremor, and compare findings within and across tasks, to delineate physiological differences underlying individually affected manual tasks in ET.

Motor rehabilitation based on the association of electroencephalographic (EEG) activity and proprioceptive feedback has been demonstrated as a feasible therapy for patients with paralysis. To promote long-lasting motor recovery, these interventions have to be carried out across several weeks or even months. The success of these therapies partly relies on the performance of the system decoding movement intentions, which normally has to be recalibrated to deal with the nonstationarities of the cortical activity. Minimizing the recalibration times is important to reduce the setup preparation and

OBJECTIVE: Postural stability depends on the coordination of the central nervous system with visual sense, proprioceptive and vestibular information. Sleep deprivation has been shown to affect this function. The objective of our study was to assess the effects of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) on postural stability.
METHODS: 158 subjects referred for suspected SDB had an overnight sleep study and were placed on a posturographic platform in late afternoon. This platform allows measuring the centre of pressure (CoP) oscillations and to calculate: total displacement of CoP in X and Y axes, mea
