Global climate change and the escalating drought cycles have severely compromised agricultural productivity in marginalized agroecosystems worldwide. This has necessitated a deeper understanding of the role of the phytobiome in the host plant's resilience. Although seed biopriming with plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) is widely acknowledged for alleviating abiotic stress, the role of PGPB biofilms in enhancing the efficiency of biopriming remains a critical knowledge gap. In this study, the biofilm-forming capacity of nine thermohalotolerant, ACC-deaminase-producing PGPB strains previous

BACKGROUND: Leaf spot caused by Alternaria alternata poses a major threat to potato production, yet the distinct impacts of its key toxins remain unresolved. This pathogen releases a range of secondary metabolites that interfere with normal leaf function and accelerate disease progression. Among them, alternariol (AOH) and tenuazonic acid (TeA) stand out as potent phytotoxins, known for triggering oxidative damage and weakening host tissues during infection. In the present work, we employed a multidisciplinary approach to investigate the physiological, biochemical, histochemical, ultrastructur

Glyphosate is used extensively as a non-selective herbicide by both professional applicators and consumers and its use is likely to increase further as it is one of the first herbicides against which crops have been genetically modified to increase their tolerance. Commercial glyphosate-based formulations most commonly range from concentrates containing 41% or more glyphosate to 1% glyphosate formulations marketed for domestic use. They generally consist of an aqueous mixture of the isopropylamine (IPA) salt of glyphosate, a surfactant, and various minor components including anti-foaming and c

A survey of viral diseases was carried out during 2012 to 2013 in two major tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) producing regions in Uruguay (Salto and Canelones). Lower leaves of fruit-bearing plants were observed displaying yellowing and interveinal chlorosis under greenhouse conditions. The symptoms were similar to those associated with magnesium deficiency. However, the chlorosis displayed a tendency to move up affecting medial and apical leaves and prevailed even after supplementary magnesium applications to the soil, indicating potential infection by either Tomato chlorosis virus (ToCV) or

Dibromochloropropane (1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane, DBCP), a pesticide used widely for over 20 years to control nematodes on crops, turf and in nurseries, was banned by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) in 1977 because of evidence of infertility in men and induction of a variety of tumors in laboratory animals. Despite the ban on the use of DBCP, this pesticide remains persistent in soil and continues to be detected as a groundwater contaminant in areas of past high use, in particular California's Central Valley. In this review, we present a critical evaluation of the a

During 1997 and 1998, virus symptoms similar to those of Soilborne wheat mosaic virus (SBWMV) and Wheat spindle streak mosaic virus (WSSMV) were observed on nine wheat cultivars (Triticum aestivum cvs. Deka, Gamtoos, Lorie II, MM2, Nata, Nkwazi, P7, Scepter, and Scan) in the Central, Copper-Belt, Lusaka, and Southern provinces of Zambia. Symptoms were observed between June and August on wheat, which in Zambia is an irrigated crop grown during the cooler months (May to August). In fields suspected to be infected with SBWMV, irregularly distributed, circular patches of severely stunted sparse pl

Malus micromalus Makino, a fruit crop with a millennium-long cultivation heritage in China, has hitherto received limited systematic investigation regarding its bioactive principles and the mechanistic underpinnings of its glucose-modulating effects. Sixteen compounds were isolated and structurally identified from the fruit. The bioactive components and action modes were systematically explored via network pharmacology, in vitro bioassays, enzyme kinetics, molecular simulation, and in vivo validation. ESR1 and MAPK3 were predicted as potential hub targets involved in insulin resistance and oxi

Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) fruit is a horticultural product consumed worldwide which has great nutritional and economic relevance. Besides the phenotypical changes that pepper fruit undergo during ripening, there are many associated modifications at transcriptomic, proteomic, biochemical, and metabolic levels. Nitric oxide (NO) is a recognized signal molecule that can exert regulatory functions in diverse plant processes including fruit ripening, but the relevance of NADPH as a fingerprinting of the crop physiology including ripening has also been proposed. INTRODUCTION: Agriculture is the primary source of income and household food for >75% of rural Kenyans, including people living with HIV (PLHIV), making agricultural yields an important factor in food security and nutrition. Previous studies have shown the interconnectedness of food insecurity, malnutrition, and poor HIV health by elucidating that having one of these conditions increases the likelihood and severity of having another. However, few studies have explored the linkages between agricultural practices, food security and nutrition for PLHIV, or how agricultural livelihood intervention

The release of untreated tannery effluents comprising biotoxic heavy metal (HM) compounds into the ecosystem is one of our society's most serious environmental and health issues. After discharge, HM-containing industrial effluents reach agricultural soils and thus negatively affect the soil microbial diversity. Considering these, we assessed the effect of HMs on identified soil beneficial bacteria. Here, the effects of four heavy metals (HMs), viz., chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), and lead (Pb), on cellular growth, physiology, cell permeability, and biofilm formation of Enterobacter

Peanut (Arachis Hypogaea) Oil is the refined fixed oil obtained from the seed kernels of Arachis hypogaea. Hydrogenated Peanut Oil, Peanut Acid, and Peanut Glycerides are all derived from Peanut Oil. Peanut Flour is a powder obtained by the grinding of peanuts. The oils and glycerides function in cosmetic formulations as skin-conditioning agents. The acid functions as a surfactant-cleansing agent, and the flour functions as an abrasive, bulking agent and/or viscosity-increasing agent. In 1998, only Peanut Oil and Hydrogenated Peanut Oil were reported in use. When applied to the skin, Peanut Oi

A longitudinal study based on mosquitoes sampled by larvae prospecting and adult catches on humans was carried out during 1999 in the rice field area of the Kou Valley (South-West Burkina Faso) to evaluate the malaria transmission level. Two sites were studied: VK5 located in the rice field centre and VK7 in the periphery. Irrigation is sub-permanent and two crops are grown each year: from February to June during the dry season and from July to November during the rainy season. A man sleeping in VK5 without any protection is exposed to more than 60,000 mosquito bites/year. Two majors vectors a

BACKGROUND: Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) productivity in sandy soils is often constrained by limited water availability and reduced physiological performance. Although antioxidant-related foliar treatments may support crop performance, direct comparisons of purified β-carotene with carrot root extract, a natural multi-component biostimulant, remain scarce in flax. This field study evaluated the effects of foliar β-carotene and carrot root extract on growth, biochemical traits, and yield performance of two flax varieties, Sakha-2 and Line-4, grown in sandy soil under a field-imposed short-term

Members of the Trichodoridae can cause substantial crop losses directly by feeding on plant roots and indirectly as vectors of tobraviruses; both vector and virus are polyphagous. In April of 2008, soil samples from the rhizosphere of Ulmus minor Mill in a deciduous broadleaf forest at Krivoklat yielded a population of Trichodorus variopapillatus Hooper, 1972. Nematodes were identified by morphological and morphometric characters as well as by molecular analysis. For classical identification, specimens were extracted from soil by a decanting-sieving method, heat killed and fixed in triethanola

The mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON) is of high importance among feed contaminants because of its frequent occurrence in toxicologically relevant concentrations worldwide. Cereal crops, the main component of chicken diet, are commonly contaminated with DON, resulting in frequent exposure of chickens to DON. Likewise, Campylobacter (C.), a pathogen of major public and animal health concern, is frequently found in chicken flocks and poses a threat to the One Health approach. Campylobacter colonizes the gastrointestinal (GI) tract of poultry with a high bacterial load in the caeca. However, the mec

Flea-borne typhus, due to Rickettsia typhi and R. felis, is an infection causing fever, headache, rash, and diverse organ manifestations that can result in critical illness or death. This is the second part of a two-part series describing the rise, decline, and resurgence of flea-borne typhus (FBT) in the United States over the last century. These studies illustrate the influence of historical events, social conditions, technology, and public health interventions on the prevalence of a vector-borne disease. Flea-borne typhus was an emerging disease, primarily in the Southern USA and California

Impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV) is a member of the genus Tospovirus, and one of the prevalent viruses infecting ornamental plants, including begonia. Since the late 1980s, it has caused dramatic and unusual diseases on many flower crops, leading to considerable economic losses to the greenhouse floriculture industry (1). The western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande), is the only species currently known to vector INSV (1). In spring 2012, stunted plant growth and necrotic spots were observed on leaves of all Hiemalis begonias (Begonia × hiemalis Fotsch.) in a greenhouse
