OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate indications and complications of laparoscopic myomectomy with regard to the reproductive outcome of infertile women with a large leiomyomatous uterus.
METHODS: From January 1997 to July 1999, 144 patients underwent laparoscopic myomectomy for a myoma measuring > or = 5 cm in diameter. Intramural pregnancy is one of the rarest forms of ectopic pregnancy, with only 16 cases reported thus far. The diagnosis is almost invariably retrospective after hysterectomy. I believe this is the first documented case of an intramural pregnancy diagnosed and managed by surgical laparoscopy.

BACKGROUND: Uterine diverticulum is classified into congenital and acquired types. The acquired type is caused by caesarean scar syndrome, which occurs after caesarean section.
