PURPOSE: The aims of our study were to evaluate the blood urea nitrogen to creatinine ratio (BUN/Cr ratio) for distinguishing between an upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), and differentiating between the two most common causes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) presenting with melena in children.

INTRODUCTION: An unusual cause of intussusception due to small bowel obstruction secondary to dried apricot consumption was encountered. Phytobezoar small bowel obstruction is a rare, but interesting pathology that accounts for 2-4% of small bowel obstructions (18). Even rarer, is an intussusception caused by dried fruit ingestion. OBJECTIVE: The "Chinese Fan Spread" (CFS) distraction technique for laparoscopic reduction of intussusception is herein described and its outcome and benefits are evaluated.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of all patients who underwent attempts at laparoscopic reduction of intussusception at our center. The CFS distraction technique was consistently applied in all cases.

OBJECTIVE: The present study aims at establishing the exact role and limitation of ultrasound in pediatric acute abdomen.
METHODS: Fifty children less than 14 years of age presenting with acute abdomen were evaluated by US and other imaging modalities. The mean age of presentation was 3 1/2 years. We are presenting 20 cases of carcinoid tumors of the digestive system. We shall evaluate: age, sex, localization and histopathology, symptomatology, therapeutics and evolution. Oocysts of Eimeria stigmosa isolated from a wild juvenile lesser snow goose (Anser caerulescens caerulescens) were used in experimental infections of laboratory-reared geese. The structure of oocysts is described; a peculiar bumpy surface and a calyx-like thickening around the micropyle are illustrated by scanning electron microscopy. Occult enterorrhagia in infancy may become obscured and lead to diagnostic dilemma. Abnormal findings on investigative modalities, if not properly interpreted and clinically correlated, might complicate the matter leading to missed diagnosis and chronic anaemia. Occult enterorrhagia is an uncommon presentation of intestinal duplications. We describe the intriguing case of chronic anaemia in an infant, where concomitant endoscopic findings misled the diagnosis of jejunal duplication cyst as the cause of enterorrhagia.

The synchronous performance of aortic graft with a second surgical procedure should be avoided because of the risk of subsequent graft infection. The Authors reported the experience of 21 patients who underwent synchronous aortic graft with second surgical procedure. No graft infection occurred and it is concluded that such combined operation may be safer to perform than staged surgery in elderly patients.
