Laparoscopic kidney transplantation (LKT) is well accepted modality of treatment for ESRD patients at our center. Usually, the kidney is inserted through small Pfannenstiel incision. With the permission of the Internal Review Board, we carried out LKT in eight female recipients following insertion of the kidney through the vagina. The kidney was procured by the retroperitoneoscopic approach. Antibiotic prophylaxis was given. Glenohumeral septic arthritis is rare and usually a result of Staphylococcus aureus infection. Gram-negative septic arthritis is on the increase and is usually associated with intraabdominal pathology. We present a case of bilateral E. Coli glenohumeral septic arthritis associated with retroperitoneal abscess and discuss pitfalls in diagnosis and management.

Rigid ureteroscopy has become a common tool for the diagnosis and management of several diseases of the upper urinary tract. Between April 1990 and April 1996, 92 ureteroscopy procedures were performed in 88 patients in the B Urology Department of Avicennes hospital for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Although most ureteral stones can be treated with Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) and endourology, there still is a small percent of patients whose stones can not be treated with minimally invasive techniques and thus require open surgery. Retroperitoneoscopic surgery is a good alternative for this subgroup of patients. It provides a direct access to the retroperitoneum, less morbid than an open operation and provides a better cosmetic result. OBJECTIVE: For optimum treatment planning and to establish the prognosis, the main objectives of diagnostic imaging techniques after detecting a tumor in the urinary bladder are to determine 1) its nature and histological structure, 2) depth of bladder wall invasion, 3) tumor localization and involvement of the ureter and trigone, 4) involvement of bladder wall lymphatics, and (5) to determine if there is or no regional and/or distant mestatasis.
