OBJECTIVE: To analyze the results achieved with transurethral resection in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
METHODS: We analyzed the results achieved with transurethral resection in 400 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who had been treated at the Joaquín Albarrán teaching hospital. The procedure was utilized for prostates weighing up to 50 gm and middle lobe involvement independent of its size. Sterile water was used as irrigant since it permits excellent vision, it is low-cost and carries a low risk of complications associated with intraoperative osmotic diuresis.

Skin grafting remains a primary modality for reconstruction of genitourinary defects. Many of these conditions are discussed and emphasis has been placed on the different indications for full-thickness, split-thickness, and dermal grafts. Complications have been few, and long-term results excellent. This experience has allowed the formulation of a number of surgical principles, which are presented. Refinements in reconstruction are currently being evaluated to obtain the optimal result.

The use of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of upper abdominal masses with nonfunctioning kidneys is described. Two cases of congential hydronephrosis due to obstruction of the pelviuretic junction are presented, both of which were diagnosed by B-scan ultrasound examination. Diagnostic ultrasound is a simple, noninvasive and reliable method of differentiating cystic from solid lesions and of assessing whether or not a mass is renal or extrarenal. It is recommended that all patients seen with an upper abdominal mass and/or nonfunctioning kidney be examined by ultrasound.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the predictors of recurrence and of de novo incontinence in patients treated by transurethral incision or resection for vesico-urethral anastomotic stenosis (VUAS) after radical prostatectomy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: All patients undergoing endoscopic treatment for VUAS between March 2009 and October 2016 were identified in our multi-institutional database. Digital chart reviews were performed and patients contacted for follow-up. Recurrence was defined as any need for further instrumentation or surgery, and de-novo-incontinence as patient-reported outcome.
