How Experiences of Stigma and Discrimination at Various Points in the Queer Life Course Interrelate with Alcohol Use: Views from Sexually and Gender Diverse Youth.

BACKGROUND: The life courses of sexually and gender diverse individuals are shaped by a series of events that include acceptance of one's own sexual orientation or gender identity, the coming out process and socialization in the LGBTQ+ (for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, and other sexual orientations and gender identities represented by the plus sign) environment. Generally experienced in a cis-heteronormative context, this process is marked by stigma and discrimination and the social harms they can cause, including a higher-than-average prevalence of alcohol use. Patient Attitudes Toward Self- or Partner-, Friend-, or Family-Administered Long-acting Injectable Antiretroviral Therapy: A Mixed-Methods Study Across 3 Urban Human Immunodeficiency Virus Clinics.

BACKGROUND: Long-acting injectable (LAI) cabotegravir/rilpivirine (CAB/RPV) offers a novel drug delivery option for persons with human immunodeficiency virus (PWH) but requires administration every 4 or 8 weeks by a medical professional. METHODS: To facilitate LAI antiretroviral therapy (ART) scale-up, we evaluated patient interest in alternative administration approaches via a mixed-methods, serial cross-sectional study across 3 US HIV clinics. We surveyed PWH (December 2021 to May 2022) on appeal of self- or partner/friend/family-administered LAI-CAB/RPV; multivariable ordinal logistic regr

Exploration of individual socioeconomic and health-related characteristics associated with human papillomavirus vaccination initiation and vaccination series completion among adult females: A comprehensive systematic evidence review with meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates among females are lower than the World Health Organization target and vaccination rates specifically among adult females are even much lower. METHODS: We systematically evaluated individual socioeconomic and health-related characteristics associated with HPV vaccination initiation and vaccination series completion among adult females (PROSPERO: CRD42023445721). We performed a literature search on December 14, 2022, and supplemented the search on August 1, 2023. We pooled appropriate multivariable-adjusted results using an inverse vari

The association of experiences of medical mistrust and mistreatment and ever considering self-managing an abortion.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the prevalence of ever considering self-managing an abortion (SMA) and its associations with experiences of medical mistrust and mistreatment in a nationally representative sample. STUDY DESIGN: In 2021-22, we conducted a national, cross-sectional, online probability-based survey of US people assigned female at birth ages 15-49. Among those who had ever been pregnant, we ran weighted multivariable logistic regressions to examine whether having had difficulty trusting medical providers and/or experiencing medical mistreatment was associated with SMA consideration. RESULTS

"Queer people are excellent caregivers, but we're stretched so very thin": Psychosocial wellbeing and impacts of caregiving among LGBTQI cancer carers.

BACKGROUND: LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and/or intersex) communities are increasingly recognized as a vulnerable and high-risk population in oncology. LGBTQI cancer carers, including carers who are LGBTQI and other carers of LGBTQI people, experience many of the same stressors as LGBTQI patients but their support needs are often overlooked in the cancer literature. METHOD: This mixed-methods study examined distress and quality of life in LGBTQI cancer carers. Online surveys were completed by 129 carers and 31 carers took part in a one-to-one semi-structured interview. A

Predictors of Adolescent Intimate Partner Sexual Violence Victimization: Patterns of Intersectional Social Positions in a Statewide, School-based Sample.

Intimate partner sexual violence (IPSV) is a substantial public health issue faced by youth, with disparities along lines of race, gender, and sexual orientation. Using an intersectional framework, the current study describes the prevalence of self-reported IPSV victimization across intersecting social positions among adolescents. High school students who completed the 2019 Minnesota Student Survey were asked whether they had ever experienced IPSV. Using exhaustive Chi-Square Automatic Interaction Detection (eCHAID), responses were modeled using five indicators: racial/ethnic identity, transge

How can HIV self-testing facilitate increased access to HIV testing among multiply marginalised populations? Perspectives from GBMSM and trans women in England and Wales.

BACKGROUND: HIV self-testing (HIVST) may facilitate marginalised populations' uptake of HIV testing, but whether the extent of marginalisation challenges individual uptake of HIVST remains under-researched. We aim to explore the perspectives of multiply marginalised cis-gender gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) and trans women on whether HIVST might increase their uptake of HIV testing. METHODS: We reanalysed qualitative interview data from SELPHI (the UK's largest HIVST randomised trial) collected between 2017 and 2020 from marginalised populations, defined as people s

Emergency department attendances and inpatient admissions due to mpox infection, England, 2022.

OBJECTIVES: In 2022, a global outbreak of mpox was reported. In the UK, it predominantly affected gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men (GBMSM). The study objectives were to describe the impact of the mpox outbreak on healthcare service usage in England in 2022, particularly emergency department (ED) attendance, inpatient admission and a number of bed days. Additionally, we wanted to explore whether pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) usage, as a marker of condomless anal intercourse, which increases the risk of sexually transmitted infections associated with compromised skin integrity, was

Prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Mycoplasma genitalium at pharyngeal and anorectal sites in patients presenting to an STI outpatient ward.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is unbridled and on the rise. Extragenital STIs (anal and pharyngeal infections) are commonly asymptomatic, resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment and consequently higher chances of onward transmission. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this observational single-centre study was to determine the prevalence of STIs at extragenital sites in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients presenting at an STI outpatient clinic. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients who presented between October 2019 and February 2021 at th

Association between dating app use and unhealthy weight control behaviors and muscle enhancing behaviors in sexual minority men: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Body image concerns are prevalent and are viewed as risk factors for engaging in unhealthy weight control behaviors (UWCBs), such as purging, fasting, and the misuse of laxatives and diet pills. Studies have also linked UWCBs to the development of eating disorders. In the United States (U.S.), sexual minority men (e.g., bisexual, gay, and men who have sex with men) are prone to UWCBs often as a result of societal pressures to achieve certain standards of appearance - of which are often perpetuated through various media platforms. A growing number of studies have explored the possib

Endocrine Health and Health Care Disparities in the Pediatric and Sexual and Gender Minority Populations: An Endocrine Society Scientific Statement.

Endocrine care of pediatric and adult patients continues to be plagued by health and health care disparities that are perpetuated by the basic structures of our health systems and research modalities, as well as policies that impact access to care and social determinants of health. This scientific statement expands the Society's 2012 statement by focusing on endocrine disease disparities in the pediatric population and sexual and gender minority populations. These include pediatric and adult lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) persons. The writing group

Sexually transmitted infections amongst men who have sex with men (MSM) in South Africa.

There is limited data about bacterial STIs in MSM populations in sub-Saharan Africa. Our retrospective analysis used data from the HVTN 702 HIV vaccine clinical trial (October 2016 to July 2021). We evaluated multiple variables. Polymerase chain reaction testing was conducted on urine and rectal samples to detect Neisseria gonorrhoea (NG) and Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) every 6 months. Syphilis serology was conducted at month 0 and thereafter every 12 months. We calculated STI prevalence and the associated 95% confidence intervals until 24 months of follow-up. The trial enrolled 183 participant
