Prolonged continuous blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) recordings from neonates of 35 to 42 weeks gestation were studied during and after ECMO. Data segments with significant deviation of BP were extracted for further analysis. The simultaneous changes in BP and HR were compared and the slope of the regression determined baroreflex sensitivity (BRS). Anorectal malformations comprise a spectrum of disease. Some of these defects are minor, with an excellent functional prognosis. Others are complex and may be associated with other defects in the urinary tract that may risk the patient's life. The decision-making process for the management of a newborn with anorectal malformations is crucial; the timing and establishment of priorities are the key to success. Because the management of affected males and females differs significantly, they are discussed separately.

Charts of 443 postdate pregnancies were reviewed to determine the effect of late maternal age on pregnancy outcome. There were significantly more low 1-minute Apgar scores, intrapartum decelerations, and cesarean sections in the group of women greater than 35 years old. Use of oxytocin percentages and the results were similar with regard to both groups. Five-minute Apgar scores also were similar. Women greater than 35 years of age are less able to be delivered of postdate infants with optimal outcomes, but it is still safe to allow them to exceed 42 weeks' gestation.
