Morbidity associated with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection can involve a variety of extrahepatic conditions, including lichen planus (LP) and sialadenitis, predominantly or exclusively involving the oral region, conditions which have been largely neglected in reviews. We report a case of congenital fistula from ectopic accessory parotid gland to the cheek demonstrated by CT sialography and CT fistulography. The right parotid gland was abnormally located lateral to masseter muscle. The fistula was arising from an ectopic accessory parotid gland with ectopic duct positioned anterior to masseter muscle. CT sialography and CT fistulography were very helpful in the diagnosis and surgical planning.

Congenital epithelial tumours of the salivary glands are very rare. The Salivary Gland Registry maintained in the Department of Pathology. University of Hamburg, contains only three cases among a total of 6,646 salivary gland tumours from the years 1965-1994. The three cases were classified as congenital basal cell adenoma, two of the parotid gland and one of the submandibular gland. A study was made of 187 patients with parotid pleomorphic adenoma treated by radiotherapy. This followed surgery but with incomplete removal or tumor spillage. In the early years of the study radiotherapy was given by radium needle implant done usually at the time of surgery, but from the late 1960s beam-directed external radiotherapy with a head shell was used most commonly. OBJECTIVE: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) present a markedly increased cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality since the early stages of the disease and a high prevalence of malnutrition, inflammation, and accelerated atherosclerosis. Personalized nutritional intervention, with of a low-protein diet (LPD), since the early stages of CKD should be able to achieve significant metabolic improvements. In our study we have verified the effects of a personalized dietary intervention in patients in the CKD stages 3/4 KDOQI on nutritional, metabolic and vascular indices.

We studied the incidence of Frey's syndrome and facial contour deformity in two groups of patients who had undergone superficial parotidectomy. Sialoblastoma is a rare congenital or perinatal salivary tumor that varies in histologic features and biologic potential. Seven cases from the files of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology are presented. Carcinomas of the head and neck typically exhibit complex chromosome aberrations but the underlying mutational mechanisms remain obscure.
