Maternal factors affecting the integrity of the late gestation placental barrier to murine enterovirus infection.

Maternal factors that might impair the integrity of the late gestation placental barrier to enteroviruses were evaluated. Mice were inoculated with Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV) on day 10-13 of gestation and sacrificed on day 16-18. Placentas and fetuses from dams with advanced age, forced daily swimming, short-term clamping of uteroplacental blood vessels, restricted dietary intake, or bacterial peritonitis were compared with tissues from TMEV-infected control mice. Increased maternal age, exercise, and malnutrition were associated with reduced fetal weight, and disturbed ut

Impact of maternal age on perinatal outcomes in twin pregnancies: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Current evidence of the maternal, perinatal and neonatal outcomes in twin pregnancies among mothers with advanced age is unclear, … as comparatively lower than in mothers under 35 years of age. There appeared no significant risk of advanced maternal age for postpartum haemorrhage, hospitalization during pregnancy and premature rupture of membranes. CONCLUSIONS: The increased risk of maternal, neonatal and perinatal outcomes in mothers with advanced age highlights the need for close follow-up, earl …

Delaying Motherhood-An Increasingly Common but Risky Trend in High-Income Countries.

OBJECTIVES: Maternal age at first birth is increasing in most high-income countries. The associations between advanced maternal age and perinatal complications, as well as newborn parameters, were analyzed using a dataset of 6831 singleton births among first-time mothers taking place in Vienna, Austria, between 2010 and 2019. METHODS: In this single-center medical records-based retrospective study, the following obstetrical parameters have been included: conception mode, preterm birth (< 37th gestational week), labor induction, planned or emergency cesarean sections, adverse child presentatio…

Performance evaluation of noninvasive prenatal testing on 24 chromosomes in a cohort of 118,969 pregnant women in Sichuan, China.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the detection capacity of non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) for chromosomal abnorm … nd microdeletion/microduplication syndromes. Positive predictive values varied from 12.0% to 89.6%. Advanced maternal age was associated with an increased risk of three major aneuploidies. The fetal fraction was positively correlated with gestational age and negatively correlated with the maternal body mass index. CONCLUSIONS: NIPT can be used to effectively screen fo …

Effects of paternal age and interaction with smoking, alcohol consumption and maternal age on implantation failure in women undergoing ART.

The findings of the AMCHS highlight the need to consider paternal and maternal ages in fertility planning and suggest that IF can be reduced by stopping paternal smoking and alcohol consumption.

Effect of basal LH levels on pregnancy outcome after IVF/ICSI fresh embryo transfer in patients of different ages: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: The predictive value of basal luteinising hormone (LH) levels for pregnancy outcomes following in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) remains controversial, and whether this relationship differs by female age has not been fully established. METHODS: A total of 1153 patients undergoing their first IVF/ICSI cycle with fresh embryo transfer at a university-affiliated reproductive medicine center between March 2020 and May 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were stratified by basal LH quartiles (<25th, 25th-75th, >75th) and age groups (<35, 35-37,

Contribution of Comorbidities and Pregnancy Complications to Severe Maternal Morbidity in the United States.

OBJECTIVE: To quantify the extent to which rising rates of severe maternal morbidity (SMM) in the United States from 2016 to 2022 are attributable to increasing prevalence of maternal risk factors, including advanced maternal age, obesity, pregestational diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes, chronic hypertension, and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the Nationwide Readmissions Database from 2016 to 2022, representing more than 25 million weighted delivery hospitalizations. Critical issue in the identification of Down syndrome and its problems in Central Java, Indonesia: The fact of needing health care and better management.

We conducted a cross-sectional study to describe the health care problems of children with Down syndrome in Central Java, Indonesia. A total of 162 children (81 boys, 81 girls) with Down syndrome were included. Congenital heart defects and hypothyroidism were found in about 50%, followed by vision and hearing problems in 27.7% and 17.3%, respectively. Almost half of cases were diagnosed after the first month of age. Advanced maternal age was identified in more than 50%, and less than 10% was based on karyotype analysis. This study describes the essential issues such as critical co-morbidities,…

Paternal age is affected by genetic abnormalities, perinatal complications and mental health of the offspring.

Infertility and fecundity problems concern 10-18% of partners in their reproductive years compromising around one million females and males in Poland. Research and analysis of factors that affect male fertility are limited, especially, regarding the age of the father and determining the age at which quality of semen decreases. Age of the father has greater impact than maternal age, on cases of sporadic autosomal dominant congenital diseases such as Apert, Crouzon, Pfeiffer, Noonan and Costello syndromes, multiple endocrine neoplasia (types 2A and 2B) and achondroplasia. However, there are only

Distribution of maternal age and birth order groups in cases with unclassified multiple congenital abnormalities according to the number of component abnormalities: a national population-based case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Multiple congenital abnormalities are caused by chromosomal aberrations, mutant major genes and teratogens. A minor proportion of these patients are identified as syndromes but the major part belonging to the group of unclassified multiple CAs (UMCAs). The main objective of this study was to evaluate the maternal age and birth order in pregnant women who had offspring affected with UMCA. The strong association between numerical chromosomal aberrations, e.g., Down syndrome and advanced maternal age is well-known and tested here. METHODS: The Hungarian Case-Control Surveillance of C…
